Description Bats clinging onto burlap cloth inside a bat house. If anyone ever asks you to take photos of bats inside of a bat house, don’t tell them no, tell them HELL NO! The Wildlife department asked me to do that, probably because they couldn’t find anyone else stupid enough. After all, bats  are infamous for cross species disease transmission, like rabies, ebola, covid…  But I didn’t really have any bat photos, so I said I would do it.
The first problem was the bat crap was piled up so high I couldn’t get into the house. This was a large house with a lot of bats, estimated at 200,000.  They eat about 2 billion insects a night. That’s about 2,000 pounds of bugs. . So I wasn’t surprised to learn that the bat house collapsed  a few years after I took this photo.  (The university built 3 replacement houses with a bat capacity of 750,000). The next problem was the roaches!  There must have been millions!  Stepping on them, having them run up your pants legs…. you get the picture. Also It was really dark, and smelled terrible.  So I snapped a few photos and got the heck out of there!
