Description I've had several people ask how I make the little, 'flat' felt plush toys I upload every now and again, so here's a tutorial explaining the basics.

These plush toys are very fun and easy to make - as well as cheap. So if you're new to plush toys, these might be a good start if you want to work your way up. I hope the tutorial is at least easy enough to follow.

Here's finished versions of plush toys I've made using these steps:

All the current ones I've listed were made for friends, so I don't have them anymore. The only one still on me is the unfinished Roxas one, and I'm in the middle of other, more complicated patterned plush toys. So unless someone's willing to offer a very high price for him, I doubt I will finish and sell him. X3

Hot glue guns?

Cheap, yeah. Great for certain things, yeah.

IT GAVE ME COSPLAY INJURIES ;___;

I got burning hot glue on thumb, then that turned into a blister in no time (by the end of the day - which was Wellygeddon's Saturday too ...), and then it got infected and sore ... And urg, bad experiences x__x

Great for random uses, yes xD.

there are more then one type of hot glue guns the hot hot ones and cool hot ones i got many blisters years ago one on the side of my palm and then i tried to wipe it off and burned more fingers...i switched to the other type of glue gun since then and i find they work about the same

XD I burn myself every time because I WANT to (not as in I'm a glutton for punishment, but because I take a quick swipe with my thumb at excess glue, which I then quickly wipe off my thumb with some cloth or tissue).

You've just gotta get used to it. X3

Yanno what's fun?

Getting an ice cream container (or any container), full it with water and then squirting the glue into. It's a waste, but a whole heap of fun. It floats so you can make pyramids and random swirly things with it xD.

You can tell I had too much spare time in year 8 ...

... I... could... almost do this.... I could run into spotlight and ignore all the fabric.... maybe if I get some moral support to cheer me on...I could make it I guess O.O It'd be neat to try at minimum I guess ^^

I've made plushies like this, and more complicated ones. But I've never known how to make the eyes. So you just paint them on there, is that how it works?? Anyways, this was very fun to look at. Thanks for sharing. ^^

KeyshaKitty In reply to Yumi-San1688 [2008-05-01 10:06:51 +0000 UTC]

You can paint them. Other people either sew on or glue on pre-made eyes. Others use iron-on transfers.

Interesting. I always end up sewing on eyes but it looks funky. X_x Thanks!

about how big are these? ^^

KeyshaKitty In reply to Karlibell22 [2008-05-01 10:07:59 +0000 UTC]

Man, I dunno...depends fully on what size you decide to make yours at. If I use the full height of the felt squares I buy, they'll come off about...a foot tall at the tallest? maybe?

Awesome, thanks for this! I usually make plushies following this general method (and felt from Spotlight is always awesome), but the tips were really informative. However, I don't think I'd have the courage to paint the faces! I've always admired how you do the eyes, especially.

Thanks, again!

I've always wanted to try making a plushie, but I always thought they were difficult to make and involved more complicated patterns. Thanks for this great tutorial! ^^

This is great! It's really inspired me to try out making plushies!
Actually, I did try to make a Demyx one inspired by your flat plushies, and it came out... er... less-than-satisfying, but I'm sure if I practise enough I'll get better!
Tankuu for this! it'll really help!

Very nice, but perhaps you should make the tutorial narrower, so people don't have to continually scroll from side to side.

KeyshaKitty In reply to sammywa [2008-05-01 10:16:59 +0000 UTC]

I just threw this together and saved it, so I can't actually go back unless I take the JPG file into photoshop and re-save it, which'll just make the quality go...well, crap. X3 So I'm afraid you'll have to take it or leave it as it is.
