So yeah - decided to compare my first attempt on making an AK-74 prop with the latest. The difference is quite smashing, I must say; then again, I didn't have Pepakura Viewer back in 2012, when I made the first rifle. But I am still proud of that transparent ammo clip of my earlier gun. Also, to go with the GP-25 under-barrel grenade launcher, I used some junk scraps to make a VOG-25 40 mm grenade - and threw my Makarov PM, and my ammo belt, as well as the "boring" clip of my earlier model in the picture for the maximum stopping power.Viva la revolution!

True, that wouldn't be shocking, but when I went to one last summer, I was stop and got patted down be cause I was wearing a military field jacket and a gas mask, and yet a guy walks in right behind me with a sword and a actual crossbow and had nobody checking their gear.

Probably because the people tend to think that a crossbow is too obsolete nowadays, and do not even pay their attention to such "outdated" weapons, just like swords, maces and other of the kind.

Very nice scratch built props. I had to double take on the newer one, because the proportions were so close to the actual weapon.

It's because Pepakura Viewer 3.0 - the first rifle was built by purely relying on instinct and some approximate photo references; the other rifle was built according to the weapon's layout in Pepakura. Still, it was made by some Counter Strike fan, and that's why the handle looks a bit too geometric.
I dunno, if I'm going to do it, but I am considering scrapping the first rifle and trying to assemble 's AK here:

Thank you! The first rifle, however, will be probably decommissioned later on, unless I could somehow sell it to some other artist here (which I doubt I'll do - dem shipping expenses, yo).

Can't you buy a real one there at 'Murica? It's us Latvians, who require 1000 and one signed documents from all the specialists imaginable to be fully licensed to purchase a pea shooter, that's why the more creative of us make gun props, if we wish to hold something even remotely like a firearm - unless, of course, you're in the army, and even then no AK for you; we're sticking to the centuries-old NATO surplus M16's, Glocks, and an occasional HK G36.

Meh - at WinterCon in Riga, there was a Ryuko Matoi cosplayer with 1:1 scale scissor blades, as well as one Jinx cosplayer with that shark-like bazooka. I don't think anyone would feel disturbed of the sight of someone bringing in an RPG - unless if this someone would be dressed as a Muslim.

True, that might not turn so many heads, but some one walking in wearing a gas mask and a old military jacket gets patted down by security. That comic con was just weird.
