Chapter 6

Friends

(location: alpha base, abandon watchtower.)

On the far side of alpha base,where hardly any soldiers has ever gone to, standing tall in a it's glory on a small hill  was the sky watchtower. The tower was the most tallest and the most reliable piece of work that the cogs ever had at their disposal for it was built on a very favorable location in alpha. The tower was so massive they had to install a elevator just to the platform. Soldiers could see far and wide of the outskirts of Llima city. But sadly, over the past few years as the sky tower began to fade away from the soldiers of alpha base.

The reason for the tower to be forgotten was that four other towers on each corner of the now secure base. Now the sky tower just only gathers dust and rust , being neglected by time never to be used, until now. On the top platform of the tower there sat a lone female gear on the edge, under the guard rail. Her name was Alice grey.she had beautiful golden tan, blue sapphire like eyes and black brunette hair.

She was also a young Latin woman who's height was an average of 5' and 6", she was a bit shorter than a average woman was. She was a bit underweight for her body looked as if it can snap like a twinge. She was so thin that she could actually fit though the smallest of spaces.

She wore a small, silk, harden skin suit that was specially designed by her choice. The armor was designed to gain mobility and agility for the wearer to move much quicker than the average gear. She would usually carry a helmet around but she hated the blasted thing. Before she had that damn helmet, she had long, beautiful, flowing hair that moved fluidly in the wind. But that changed the moment she acquired the suit.

She didn't want to cut her hair but she was forced to cut it up to her ears, thanks to her so called "new squad leader". Ever since her old squad leader,  commander smith, who died a month ago. After the notification of his death, Kevin bluntly took charge and change their way. That's is why she had to wear the helmet all because of him. He says that it was mandatory for her to wear it but she knew that he wanted to wear it so no one can look at her face.

She wasn't hideous to look at, in fact she was down right adorable. When she would give a silly smile or irritated pout, she would look like the worlds most hugable person to ever live. Kevin actually like her-which made her feel disgusted-for the reason he forced her to wear the helmet. She looked to her side to look at the disturbing helmet, that was probably a man's helmet style. If she did not wear the helmet when ever he sees her in his view he would become angered and punish her with Kevin personal favorite, "toilet patrol".

She shudder at the thought of that disgusting punishment. She would wish ever night that something would happen to that sorry excuse for a base. She found so many opportunities for her to leave, but...then should wouldn't have James or Jessica with her. James was a childhood friend that she loved being around and Jessica was a strange yet fun minded friend. They were like her brother and sister she never had for she grew up being an only child.

Alice sighed and looked off into the distance. She thought back at the day when her life change the first time they made friends with Jess.

*a year earlier*

In a long, dry region of rock and dust. An ATP drove casually towards alpha base, caring newest recruits to the cog army. Inside the ATP, looking out the window, sat Alice grey. She was a bit average with her new shiny gear armor while her once long black hair Boyce evenly without moving any strains of hair. She was so excited to finally become a gear and go to her first permanent station, yet she was bored out of her mind. The reason for her boredom was because she had been in the ATP since the left basic at Jacinto.

Alice's sighed and turned her head to the other side of the ATP. On the other side she saw her childhood, James stone. He was slouching forward because he was a bit...tall. She tried not to let anything that is involving her to giggle. He looked like an oversize teddy bear that is stuff in a chest. Alice mentally slapped herself and looked up at him.

"I wonder what's it going to be like over there, James?" Alice thought

Whatever James was thinking about quickly vanish from his mind and looked down at Alice, since his a taller than her. He shifted around his seat to get more comfy, he then place his palm under his chin a thought of her question.

"Hmm, maybe it's going to be a lot bigger than this piece of-" he said before receiving a light slap on his arm, giving a small yelp of surprise

"don't start James, remember the last time you swear." she said

She had a light seriousness from her small face. It always made James  laugh kindly, because she couldn't be serious if she wanted to, but this time he knew he didn't really like cursing Infront of Alice because she always hated to hear curse ever since she punched a kid back at Hanover high for cursing at James during lunch. after that she always has his back. Sometimes to literal.

James rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled nervously.

"yeah, sorry Alice almost forgot." James apologized

Alice smiled and leaned forward to give James a small hug

"Aww I can't stay mad at you, your to good to me!"

James patted her head and returned the  hug.

"It's the least I can do."

Alice sat back at her seat and smiled lightly, she then grew bored and wanted to get rid of it. She tried swing her legs back and forth, looking out the window, even tried to sleep but almost hitting her head on the roof. So there was only one solution this her boredom.

"hey James."

"Hmm?"

" Where exactly is alpha base?" Alice asked

James moved a bit and placed a hand on his knee and the other rubbing his helmet chin, thinking.

" it near Llima city!" a voice was heard

James and Alice jump in place, avoiding to fly out of their seats. They both looked to the front of the ATP to find that they had someone else in the vehicle. It was a female gear with long, dark violet hair bouncing from the ride. Her arms were resting behind her head and she had her legs on the other side of the ATP. She seemed the most relaxed person on this truck that didn't mind the bumps. Finally, Alice smiled and waved her hand to the woman.

"Thank you miss." Alice thanked

The woman scuffed at her thanks, causing Alice to feel confused. She lowered her hand a bit and from a smile to a frown.

"Not to be a bitch, but don't call me miss I feel old if you do and I ain't old." she told

Suddenly, James tried to stand up and walked over to the woman. As he moved to the front, Alice tried her best to hold him back. He never got so angry ever since he throw a guy in a trash can for grabbing Alice's butt. Now James was towering the woman and looking down at her. The woman still had her relaxed stance and did not make an effort to move at all.

"hey, I get you don't like to be called miss, but that doesn't mean for you just be rude to my friend." James growled

"James please, don't start tro-" Alice begged until she saw the woman standing up and looking up at James with a smirk on her face

"uh huh, and you think you can just control me with that half-ass intimidation you got there!" she bluntly said

"you little-"he growled

"James?" Alice asked

"come on, James let see how tough you are, I doubt you can even do anything if you life depended on it!" she taunted

James lower his head to meet the gaze of the purples head woman an glared though his helmet. The woman lost her smirk and replaced it with a frown as she look at James.

"I don't give a shit about my life as long as my friends are safe!" he told

This shocked the two girls, even the Alice was surprised at James answer. She tried to saw something until he gently grab her shoulder and walked back to their seats. Before they could sit, they suddenly heard clapping behind them. They turn around to see the woman clapping with a smile on her face.

"never in my life did I hear someone willing to give their lives to insure the safety of others." she told

Now it was James to be shocked at her statement."

"...what?" Alice and James said in unison

The woman walked up to the two and gave them a hug. Now they were extremely confused.

" I like you two, I know I going to have a good time with you guys." she told

She let go of the two and extend her arm in front of them.

"names Jessica moorcroft, but you can call me Jess, pleasure to meet you!"

James ad Alice looked at each other and looked back at Jess's hand . James grabbed it first then Alice followed in grabbing Jess hand.

"James stone, and this Alice grey." he address them both

Jess nodded her head and turned to sit back at her seat.

"um Jess?" Alice called

"yeah?"

Alice looked a bit nervous now when Jess looked at her. Her legs were crossed in a silly way while her hands were fiddling with each other, squeezing them though her hands until they were out of the other. this seemed so much easier in Alice's head, but now just about to ask it. Alice inhaled as much air in her lungs and said.

"how did you get in the army?"

James flinched at the words Alice just said. he couldn't believe she just said that in front of the person that may or may not beat them in a life time of misery and pain. James looked at Alice for a minute before following her eyes towards Jess. what James was thinking that Jess was about to yell or scream at them, he was surprised at the look at Jess. her entire face was a big plate of shock and worry, she was as if she was stuck in a hypnotic state.as if the question hit her in a bad place, but what?

"w-what do you mean by that?!"Jess stuttered, trying to remain focused

"I-I mean uh i mean...if you are in the army...then how did you get permission to leave the farm operation?" she asked sheepishly

Jess looked even more shocked and little bit of stress coming from her features. she finally moved when she started rubbing the back of her neck while looking at her left side window.

"uhhh...lets just say...ummm...shit...ummm...i let myself in the army...so to speak." she told with hesitation in her voice

James and Alice looked at each other for a moment then back to Jess. Jess refused to look back at the two even with their confused stares. as if a miracle from god himself, James sighed and lifted both his hands in the air while turning around.

"You know what, I don't even want to know!" James groaned

Jess gave a great sigh of relief while Alice nodded in agreement, although a bit curious, but soon shook it off. As James turns to his seat, Alice notice something on his back. She couldn't hold back a smile when she readied her leg. She kicked James square on his rear. James jumped in surprise and turned half his body around rubbing his now sore butt.

"ummm, the hell?" James

Alice couldn't hold it any longer, she burst out laughing holding her belly. James was now really confused until her heard the sound of paper coming from behind him. He looks over his shoulder to find no one behind him, yet he could still hear the sound. He then down behind him to find a piece of paper strapped to him back.

"what the-" he said trying to get the paper but fail

"here, I got it." Alice told

She reach behind him and grabbed the sheet. She look at it real quick then flip it over to let James see. There was writing on the sheet of paper, He bent down to see what was written on it. When he looked he made a "are-you-serious!" look under his helmet.

He stared at the paper for a few minutes them finally looks behind Alice and glare at Jess, who looked fully guilty with that smug little grin. When she saw James looking at her she put the most innocent face he had ever seen. She had her bottom lip pucker out while her eyes made the most cutest look to them, finally she topped it off with her head tipped down with her index finger resting on her chin.

"did I do something wong" she innocently said, purposing to miss pronounce "wrong"

Even though she made the innocent act, it wasn't enough to put James in a good mood. James continued to glare at Jess until she turned and walked back to her seat.

"just to let you know, I'm a  prankaholic so that means that will never stop pranking."she said with a mischievous smile crawling on her face

James and Alice stared at Jess with widen eyes. After a long moment of staring their eyes met each other with the same expression.

"this is going to be a long day!" James said as Alice giggled

As Alice went though her thoughts, she was pulled back to living as she heard the elevator for the tower turn on. As it grew louder she heard faint voices slowly getting louder.

"...then what happen?" Jess voice appeared with slight surprised

"I told him to fuck off!" James said with pride

The next thing she heard was a roaring laughter of the two. She was not to happy with James. Whatever James did it was going to a problem for the two later on. She stood up and headed towards the doors to the elevator doors crossed arms and leaned to her left side. She liked the pose because it made James scared when she looked piss, which she was. The elevator came to a stop and the doors slowly opened.

"man, I can't believe you did that!" Jess laughed

"did what?" Alice said harsher then she meant

When she spoke, the two flinched in surprised and slowly turned to see Alice in her anger pose. She saw that they were caring three trays of food, Jess caring one and James caring two. She smiled happily inside, they remembered to get her on too. But she mentally shook her head and focus on the problem. She heard James gulped down in fear as he shakily waved his hand.

"H-h-hey Alice, h-h-hows it goin?" he said fearfully

"did what!?!" she told again with irritation in her voice

James pulled back to his chest and held his breath in fear. She really wish she could apologies to James. She didn't like being mean to James but she had to know what was wrong. They did no move for a few minutes until a tray appeared in front of Alice's face.

"come on Alice, can we do this after we're done eating?" Jess broke the ice

Alice was going to decline until she smelled the food. She had a small sniff of the everything In front of her. She smelled a strong aroma from the meat, the sweetness of the freshly made apple pie, the steaming goodness of the baked potatoes. But the most greatest item on the tray that lived the most was the small cup filled with chocolate and strawberry ice cream mixed together, topped with a plump, juicy looking red cherry sitting on top.she couldn't hold her anger anymore.

She quickly took the tray and squealed for joy. Jess smiled in succession as James whip imaginary sweat drops of his helmet.

'thanks Jess, I owe you one.' he whispered

Jess turned to him and put her hand on her hip as she put a mischievous face towards James.

"you owe me five James, Remember!?!?" She told whispering

James groaned, James was about to say something until a loud screeching noise came to play. James and Jess held their ears at the horrible sound. After a moment of screeching it stopped. James and Jess let go of their ears at looked at where the sound came from. The sound came from a metal table that was pulled from the far side of the tower with Alice sitting on one side of the chair.

"Come on guys, Lets eat!" Alice told gesturing towards the other two chairs pulled in the table

James and Jess looked at each other and shrugged. They moved to the table and sat down at their seats. Once they sat down they all looked at each other waiting to start a conversation. Alice sighed and took a spoon full of mashed potatoes, smiling the while.

"So how was your day, guys?"

Alice was going to decline until she smelled the food. She had a small sniff of the everything In front of her. She smelled a strong aroma from the meat, the sweetness of the freshly made apple pie, the steaming goodness of the baked potatoes. But the most greatest item on the tray that lived the most was the small cup filled with chocolate and strawberry ice cream mixed together, topped with a plump, juicy looking red cherry sitting on top.she couldn't hold her anger anymore.

She quickly took the tray and squealed for joy. Jess smiled in succession as James whip imaginary sweat drops of his helmet.

'thanks Jess, I owe you one.' he whispered

Jess turned to him and put her hand on her hip as she put a mischievous face towards James.

"you owe me five James, Remember!?!?" She told whispering

James groaned, James was about to say something until a loud screeching noise came to play. James and Jess held their ears at the horrible sound. After a moment of screeching it stopped. James and Jess let go of their ears at looked at where the sound came from. The sound came from a metal table that was pulled from the far side of the tower with Alice sitting on one side of the chair.

"Come on guys, Lets eat!" Alice told gesturing towards the other two chairs pulled in the table

James and Jess looked at each other and shrugged. They moved to the table and sat down at their seats. Once they sat down they all looked at each other waiting to start a conversation. Alice sighed and took a spoon full of mashed potatoes, smiling the while.

"So how was your day, guys?"
