The arid world of Codoris orbits the star Rasebia, which is, in fact, a close binary consisting of a K type and a dim M type that orbit close enough that their atmospheres overlap; the primary K type has been the one called Rasebia through history as its companion is outshine, having been detected only when the native Valdaali developed more advance technology and named it Basun (literary 'Companion'). Located in the outer Norma Arm just trailing of the Segorian Union, it is home to Codoris itself, the second world in orbit, with a 66 days period (just 12 local days) and is host to only a small, misshapen moon called Wirne.

Due to a low density, Codoris has a fairly low mass and gravity for its size, and it is exposed to relatively high levels of radiation and solar wind from the fairly tumultuous binary pair, especially the variable red dwarf. As such, Codoris' weakening magnetic field dose less and less to protect its surface, which is fairly hot and dry, dominated by three major continents and a few large seas. Despite a low density, Codoris' crust is very rich in rare metals, courtesy of the two gas giants being to far from the inner system to attract stray asteroids, which has led to Codoris being heavily bombarded through history by significantly sized asteroids. The desolate rocky deserts of Codoris are pocketed by numerous craters, the most prominent of which are yet to be fully eroded by the elements and still visible from space. Even with the harsh conditions, life on Codoris has thrived for billions of years, adapting to not just survive the regular bombardment, but depend on it as the massive craters are home to the most diverse ecosystems that grow out of the small lakes at the center and the tall crater walls that protect the oasis from the harsh winds and desertification. While relatively short lived, geologically speaking, they are still being created and renewed every few hundred thousand years and provide a constant source of protection for native life.

Due to Codoris' natural geological processes such as mountain formation having slowed down considerably over the last few hundred million years or so, with erosion grinding most high mountains into shadows of their former selves except a few, these impacts and their aftermaths are one of the only remaining dynamic of the planet. Only the erosion by rivers of the great canyons in the eastern flats of Kadava has as much impact on the planet's surface, with tides being fairly minimal. It is in these craters and the walls of the hundred mile long canyons that the majority of valdaali civilization toke root, taking advantage of the rich mineral deposits to grow and develop. Today, after millennia of conflict between the many clans, Codoris is mostly united under the Valdaali League and is a heavily industrialized and rich world, especially the capital of Tenestra located in the largest crater-oasis of the planet.

Even so, the millennia long animosity, rivalries and blood feuds between the tribes has yet to be fully eliminated, making Codoris a powder-keg which periodically erupts in civil wars which, while small and minor on the homeworld itself, translate into entire cities being laid to waste in the rest of the League, especially on the outlying colonies which the richer tribes of Codoris use in their plays for dominance with little care, which leads to further animosity against the homeworld and regular terrorist attacks and insurrections- for this reason, Codoris has a relatively strict and draconian security force with the full backing of the home fleet, which rivals the nearby Segorians in strength.
