Description

The Dekar of Urilia, located in the Crux Arm, are a major galactic superpower and one of the key League members, their territory bordering the Krog Imperium, their historical rival.

The hulking humanoids are native to the rocky, mostly barren landscape of Urilia, a planet torn by frequent volcanic eruptions and tectonic upheaval; despite their large size and mass, they are very agile and fast, equally as comfortable on two legs as they are on four, with large, muscular arms and torsos. Their head is located on a thick, immobile neck, with four small eyes and a wide, v shaped mouth surrounded by four appendages from which small tongue like organs stick out- these organs act much like snake forked tongues, probing the air for an extremely acute sense of smell. When in need, such as during hunting, these 'tongues' can also retract in their appendage, allowing the dekar to spray a venom-like neurotoxin on their target, paralyzing all but the largest animals. Their bodies are covered by various bony plate; their foreheads are heavily armored, while their backs are adorned with large prominence.

In general, the dekar are opportunistic omnivores, evolved to roam the surface of Urilia for any and all potential substance; despite their considerable strength, the dekar rarely hunt other creatures, having very reserved behaviors meant to conserve energy as much as possible, and can even hibernate if need be for months at a time. They are very cautious and considerate beings, always thinking several days or weeks ahead and rarely act out of impulse unless absolutely necessary. While this makes them somewhat slow to react in some situations, their circumspect nature is such that they often have some sort of planed course of action for most circumstances, though often the lest likely the situation the least though out they are. In terms of society, the numerous clans and city states that arose across Urilia are ruled by popularly elected councils of the most intelligent individuals- few, if any authoritarian regimes have existed through dekar history, a result of their very individualistic nature that abhors being told what to do without previous consent. Farming, building and economy are all pre-planed by the council in advance, with most cities of states requiring the citizens to vote on whether to implement it or not while individuals plan out their careers, mates and even number of offsprings, with the degree varying from culture to culture and city to city.

Politically, the planet had been divided for millennia between small nation states, as larger entities simply became to populated for the voting practice to work in any efficient way with their primitive means of transmitting information. Wars were common, often lasting for decades and degenerating into complex games of back and forth by commanders of the armies, and most often than not nobody ended up coming out on top. The status quo of these republics lasted up until 1150 BCE, when the Kroutan made first contact with the then mid 21st century equivalent civilization. As contact with alien life was considered highly unlikely up until that point, any plan to deal with the kroutan was not well developed and disturbed much of the population. Afraid, much of the planet shunned the aliens and refused to make further contact or even outright threatening them with primitive nuclear weapons; the kroutan, for their part, simply stepped away and left the dekar to their own devices. For the next several decades, the dekar entered a technological revolution and advanced at a rapid pace, eventually becoming spacefaring themselves by 1100 BCE. By this time, advance telecommunication and global, real time communication networks allowed massive nations to form out of the many thousands, forming three large confederations that would go on to dominate dekar politics up until modern times, with frequent civil wars and minor skirmishes.

Not long afterwards, the dekar expanded into the local interstellar neighborhood and founded the interstellar and forming a small but growing star empire. This empire, widely known by its unofficial name, the Dekar Republics, would soon come into direct conflict with the equally new Krog Imperium, and the two would go back and forth in a series of minor wars leading up to the Second Groth War in 800 BCE. Prior, during and long after the war, the dekar, seeing the lead-up to the massive conflict, opted to remain neutral and retreated inwards, appeasing the Imperium, wich was also neutral, with favorable treaties and concessions so as to avoid further direct conflict. For almost two millennia after the war, the Dekar Republics remained a large but isolationist power, with few dealings with outsiders. As the Groth began to stir again during the second millennium CE, however, the dekar found themselves in a difficult position as the Imperium, now allied with the Groth, started to disregard the old treaties and annex bordering systems. In 1650 CE, the Republics opted to break their self impose isolation and allied with the Rendanor League, becoming its largest presence in the region. During the Third War of 1860 CE, the Republics main worlds played a crucial role as major staging areas for the combined League fleets. Today, it is one of the most heavily fortified League holding, especially on the border with the Krog Imperium.
