Description
The Pronirr are a sapient, spacefaring species from Garician space, from the world of Cyria in the Eihme system. Their sovereign state is a major member of the Rendanor League and the primary rival of the Esseles, located fairy closely to them in galactic terms.
The pronirr are best distinguished by the hard, semi-metallic exoskeleton which covers most of their body, three eyes-one in front, two on each side of their head- and long, slender limbs with multiple articulations. Their legs especially have five major points of articulations with a fairy wide margin, allowing for quite elegant movement over harsh terrain. Their homeworld, Cyria, is an average mass terrestrial world with a fairy weak magnetic field and a thin atmosphere which lacks a significant ozone layer, allowing solar radiation to freely hit the planet's surface. Most lifeforms have adapted to the high level radiation; some live mostly underground, coming above only at night, while some, such as the pronirr, have developed an outer skin that contains various traces of metals, giving them a small measure of protection. The pronirr have developed a full exoskeleton and other ways to cope such as very potent regenerative potential, allowing them to walk freely on the surface, prowling the deserts in small groups in search of burrowing animals.
The pronirr, at their core, are a highly individualistic species that conglomerate in groups purely for defense. Though they mate for life, the mates rarely stay together for long and often leave their offsprings to fend for themselves at a young age, though they do take the time to give them basic knowledge to help with their survival- although the natural individualistic nature of the species makes it so that many young attempt to leave even before that to make a life for themselves. However, the pronirr are far from uncaring and are more than happy for the presence of others, often going out of their way to offer help to less fortunate individuals, but as they are very self deterministic such acts are often declined- many believe that the only way to succeed at any given task or endeavor is through their own personal strength alone; however, honesty is also considered a major virtue, and admitting one's limit and accepting help is seen as far from shameful or undesirable- some youngs who lack the will or means to keep going by themselves remain with one of their parents and often help raise the next generations. When push comes to shove, however, for instance a threat no one can deal by themselves the pronirr are surprisingly eager to cooperate and give their freedoms up to someone they deemed worthy and proficient at the task- though once the danger passes, they disperse just as quickly.
Over the years, many lose cities sprang up across Cyria, but these were little more than a convenience to pool resources to protect their young long enough for them to learn basic skills of survival. Lacking any kind of leadership, no real state has ever emerged during their prehistory. Individuals would share knowledge and skills for mutual benefits that would sometimes lead to new innovations, but otherwise the pronirr remained at a relatively primitive, iron age stage for thousands of years before they were discovered by the aonosians around 10000BCE. Though their many attempts to uplift primitive species, none were as difficult as the pronirr; their lack of governments and proper organizations outside dealing with outside treats meant the aonosians attempts failed one after the other. Though the pronirr eventually learned of the aliens, it did little to change their demeanor and despite some minor advancements in technology and some very major steps in sciences, they remained a low level technological race with a lack of major industries and economy.
That is, until the Great War- the conflict which saw the annihilation of the Aonosian Empire and the extinction of their race. A few aonosians ran to Cyria for refuge, and it was through them the pronirr learned of the great Enemy threat that easily wiped out one of the universes most powerful species. It was this event that marked the most major turning point for the pronirr: as word spread of the threat waiting in dark space, the pronirr experienced a massive and unparalleled shift, with millions banning together in order to come up with a solution. The answer was the Concordat, created for the sole purpose of protection against any who would mean harm to them. Some of the most brilliant minds of the pronirr were suddenly given near absolute power with the responsibility of bringing the species up to a level they could have a chance at surviving in a hostile galaxy. Nearly every individual willingly joined the Concordat, working to improve themselves in whatever mean was necessary.
Though the aid and advice of the aonosians exiles, new technologies began to appear and the level of advancements exploded at a tremendous rate. Within a century, rudimentary spaceslight was already a thing and new means of food production allowed for a massive increase in the population. Within another century, the Concordat was already colonizing nearby star systems and undertaking the creation of a basic fleet.
Through their expansion, the Concordat made first contact with neighboring species and soon established itself as a regional power, though due to the pronirr' nature never really exerted that power outside its borders unless provoked by an outside force, the most prominent being the nearby- relatively speaking- Esseles Hierarchy, who's unrestricted expansion was seen as a direct treat and thoroughly opposed by nearly every one of its neighbors. The Concordat freely allied itself with the League, though due to its nature rarely dis so for longer that it toke to secure its interests, much to the frustration of the other members.
Though a government in all but name, the Concordat remains purely a union of convenience and, as the pronirr themselves freely admit, would dissolve within less than a day if it lacked an outside enemy, and reform just as quickly if another appeared. However, the constant presence of the esseles and the memory that whoever wiped out the aonosians might very well be plotting a return to the Milky Way has kept the Concordat stable and growing though the millennia, molding it into a veritable superpower with one of the largest fleets in the GW, and although isolationist by their nature the pronirr are considered some of the friendliest and honest in the galaxy, freely giving aid to those who need it.
