Description

The Ropatran are a sapient species originating from the oasis' of the arid world of Falda, located around the star Gayarav, a few thouand light years trailing of the Esseles Hierarchy, in the Carina Arm.

Ropatran are an semi-arboreal creatures roughly human sized, a bipedal stance with two arms and legs as well as a prehensile tail. Both their hands and feet end with three large digits adapted for moving fast in the canopy. They are mostly foragers, living half and half on the ground and in the trees eating fruits and insects. Four large, retractable skin flaps adorn their backs, acting as extra surfaces for cooling on particularly days. Though their personalities are fairy calm and placid, having evolved in an environment with few if any natural predators, they can be surprisingly vicious, especially when defending their family groups, displaying above average strength despite their somewhat reduced body mass due to Falda's low gravity- an adaptation resulted due to Falda's oxygen rich atmosphere, which provides a very potent energy source.

As a whole, the ropatran are clam, easy going and open minded creatures who's society is so loose, open and lacking in distinct social hierarchy and structure to outsiders it might very well look like anarchy- although that is not entirely true, as the various cities and villages which have formed around the rare oasis' doting the desolate landscape of Falda do have a concept of leadership and employ a limited version of government each. Called Qiila, or literary 'Pillar', a few individuals which distinguish themselves are looked up by the rest of the population and given authority to enact certain leadership qualities, although how much they can accomplish depends from one city to the other.

Ropatran have rarely had any grand scale wars or conflicts, as the isolation of the oasis' and their general peaceful nature means they are both extremely open and hospitable to strangers. Despite that isolation, the ropatran do have a deeply ingrained sense of exploration and many younger ones chose to brave the rocky deserts in search of other tribes and new locations to explore. Because of this, the few isolated cities have had a fair bit of contact with each other. Built on the outskirts of the oasis', the cities sometimes encompass the entire circumference of the feature, leaving the rare forest within mostly intact and preserved for food and water.

These cities are often very loose conglomerations of buildings, with little in the way of order or though in how they are build, making them look like patchwork and confusing to navigate. The ropatran society is surprisingly stagnant and slow to change and implement said change. Though hover the millennia enterprising ropatrans have advance their technology to mediocre level, lack of wars to push for fast advancement and a distinct lack of organized infrastructure has resulted in a species that, for all its openness and freedom, hardly ever advances by itself. In addition, despite sometimes having fought large scale wars in times of crises', the ropatran have virtually no concept of strategy or tactic beyond 'attack', something which they are however extremely good at with above average strength and agility.

Up until they were first discovered by garian explorers around the mid 15th century, the most impressive feat of the ropatran was a 100 kilometer long railway system linking two of the largest cities, coordinated by their respective, visionary Qiilas. Even man centuries after being introduced to advance technology, the ropatra cities remain fairy primitive and underdeveloped, despite some limited interstellar travel- mostly supported by the garians as well as the palotan, who see it as their duty to help the somewhat naive and innocent species, especially from the relatively nearby Esseles Hierarchy. Many adventure hungry ropatrans can be found through the galaxy, and despite the impossible task set before them a small but growing group, influenced by the scale the other civilizations have achieved, have began a campaign to unite the ropatrans under a common, proper entity for the first time in their history, but with little success so far.
