King Sombra doesn't seem to get much appreciation, always being compared to Discord or Chrysalis. He's a different kind of villain that I felt served his purpose, and didn't really need to on screen more than he was.Related content

I compare Sombra to Discord and Queen Chrysalis, and at least King Sombra didn't waste any time bragging, nor did he take his enemies lightly. From how we look at him, he does feel underrated. However, the way he was written makes him, in reality, a confused, broken and wasted villain.
But all in all, I am favoriting this because I like his lustful grin, dark magic flickering from his horn, and stomping a crack into the ground altogether. Keep up the good work!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks Sombra gets too little appreciation. As much as I want to know more about Sombra, I'd be fine if they left his story alone. Who knows, maybe we'll get some more from him in the season 4 premiere.

I really like what you did in this pic, King Sombra's posture looks very aggressive showing how of a menacing character he is. And I really love the textures you put on his armor, it show a great deal of elegance showing his position as king. Fantastic Job!

Fave villian, (Besides old Discord) due to the fact that his mystery made him menacing. Not to mention he looked pure evil.

Twilight was in dire straits. King Sombra had returned, conquering the Crystal Empire. She had no idea where her BBBFF or sister-in-law were, or her friends. And now, the King of Shadows had cornered her. Desperately, she drew forth that dark power from the back of her mind, and felt the burning purple smoke leak from her tear glands. In an instant, Sombra was blocked off by a ring of black crystals.
Twilight breathed a sigh of relief. A brief respite.
All too brief, the universe seemed to think, as black smoke oozed around the ring of black crystals, coalescing before Twilight Sparkle into the Crystal King Sombra. The crystals grew up towards the ceiling, shadowy smoke spreading under Twilight's hooves, rooting her to the spot.
"Oh, you think darkness is your ally, but you merely adopted the dark," the dark king snarled. "I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a stallion. By then, it was nothing to me but blinding! The shadows betray you, because they belong to me!"

So if a unicorns' horn gets chopped off (Rarity let's say,) will she have to wait for it to grow back? Or can she use magic to re-attach it?

The bad guy who did nothing to stop his destruction.
The conclution here is that Cadence was more powerful bearing a barrier strong enough to stop him until the last time.
Maybe more magic traps than staris would be better.

Also, someone made the case that Sombra actually out-performs the other villains in one aspect. The fact that the very mention of him completely demoralized the Crystal Ponies grants Sombra some serious respect points in the evil department. There is something else, I'll try to find that link...

(Sigh.) Either way, I don't like his lack of backstory. As far as we know, he's just some powerful a**hole that took power and was defeated. I don't want to think of him like this, but I need some details. No one does what he did without some reason...

I do have to agree. Sombra is different from Discord, Chrysalis, and Nightmare Moon. He's meant to be his own villain and he certainly has his own strengths as a villain.

I would have appreciated a little more back story on King Sombra, though. I like to know the reason behind the action instead of the standard "because he's evil" thing.

Being evil doesn't necessarily need a reason, look at history.
