When I colored this I had no skill at inking a drawing (which this drawing really needed). I had planned on inking it after learning how to ink, but offered to do another version of this fantastic artwork. What she did was even better than what she had done originally, and it was freshly inked which meant my coloring skills could really be expressed. Here is that drawing if you are interested in seeing it:

Very interesting.

The difference between male Ginny and female Ginny (and for that matter Ginny's sibling Ron) is heard to see β€” it appears that Ron is in the back and Ginny is in the front.

Well, family resemblances between brothers and sisters is somewhat subjective when it comes to drawings. Personally I have a hard time imaging what Ron would look like without thinking of Ginny because she would be the closest reference to what Ron might look like as a girl. Conversely, Ginny as a boy to me looks a bit more handsome than boy Ron. Stronger chin, thicker neck, shorter hair.

Of course I only colored it, I did not draw it. It was a challenge to do because the original drawing was so dark. I certainly would've done it differently if I were to color it today with the tools at my disposal. Β

Ah, okay.

Personally I think that the shade of hair and perhaps even names would help, such as Ronnie (short for Ronalda) and Gin (short for something/some-name), but that's me.

would've had to put the names in the drawing next to each character. For me to do that would have meant possibly stepping over bounds. That and I never actually ask her who was who in the drawing so I took my best guess at it. Doing different shading for me at the time would have been difficult to do. As I said before today I would have inked the drawing, cleaned up the lines, and added proper shading and highlights with the coloring to give it a much more vibrant look to it.

On a side note I recently colored a drawing with Ron and Harry as girls. Looking at that fem Ron I'd have to say did capture the likeness. Also, that drawing shows just how much I have improved my coloring,

Earlier in the thread you were commenting on there not being enough of a difference between Ginny and Ron. Then later you mentioned possible using shading of the hair and adding the names to the characters to set them apart. I tried to answer why my coloring was so limited back then, why I didn't add text to the drawing, and lastly show what I can do now in terms of both shading and adding text now. I figured it would be an extra bonus for you to see Ron as a girl since most of the commenting you had made was between Ron and Ginny. I don't know if that cleared up things or not.

Lower down the comment thread someone asked me who everyone was and I answered the best I could. Looking at your description I am relieved I had it spot on because I would've had to turn in my Harry Potter Geek-Dom Card (paten pending of course) ^^

I think what was asking was to actually have titles of the characters on the drawing itself. If you like I could give this drawing a second go by inking, coloring and adding names to the drawing. It would not be something I could do right away but it wouldn't be too difficult for me this time around. You would have to come up with fem versions of their names for the former boys, and masculine names for the former girls. Something like:

Harry Potter.................Harriet Potter
Ron Weasely...............Ronda Weasely
George Weasely..........Georgette Weasely
Fred Weaseley.............Freda Weasely
Ginny Weasely............?
Hermione Granger.......Herman Granger
Neville Longbottom....Nelly Longbottom
Draco Malfoy..............Drusilla Malfoy
Luna Lovegood...........Lune Lovegood
Cho Chang..................?
Severus Β Snape............Severa Snape
Albus Dumbldore.......Alba Dumbledore

Just suggestions really. You could go with those or come up with other names you would prefer, or just keep the names in the description like you have it. Up to you entirely.

Yeah you were really close; the only mix-up was Dumbledore with Lady Voldemort (which I again recognize couldn't been far more evil looking).

I guess if I were doing the names as well I probably would've gone a similar route (I really like Drusilla Malfoy, by the way). The only thing I might've done differently is maybe Fred and George as Frida & Georgia and Rhonda spelled with an "h". Cho could probably still be Cho and Ginny could maybe be Gino. And Maybe I would change Luna to Luno.

Yeah if you want to ink it that's totally fine by me. Maybe you want a better scan of it? You know where it's not cut off? Or seeing as this is like four and half years old I could do a better version now. Ha, let me know.

The one on the upper right is Voldemorte? She looked so majestic, so much like the head mistress. Oh well, I suppose Voldi would've saw herself that way seeing how much "She Who Must Not Be Named" wanted to take over Hogwarts. Still, it made more sense for her to be Dumbledore to provide balance between her on one side and Snape on the other. It was almost as if they were both keeping watch over the students which in a way is what the characters were doing in the books. Dumbledore doing so publicly while Snape was doing so undercover. Well, had I known she was Voldemorte I would not have given her a normal flesh tone to her face and I might have given her red eyes and a darker color dress.

If we are talking about inking, coloring, and adding text to spiffy up the drawing, then it shoud be the best that it can be. The cleaner and more distinct the lines are the easier my job will be. The original drawing I worked with was a fairly murky one on the edges, but is not the darkest scanned image I've ever had to work with. Below is a drawing of Theodore that is very dark on the left, and what I did to it on the right.

Β

Now, I'm not saying I would prefer doing that sort of thing for every project. That was a challenge for me. Your drawing is certainly not that dark to work with. If you do have a version of the drawing that is not cutting off the characters at the edges of the page, then I would like that, anything with more detail would be welcome. If you're up for a complete re-draw then I'd be more than happy to wait for that. I think people would like to see the before and after with this. Just pop me a note about the details and what you'd like to see me do on my end.

Hah I already started a new one. I'll post a link on your wall when it's finished (I'll probably do a line art for it so you won't have to ink it as well.)

Kimbawest In reply to branmuffinpower [2014-02-10 23:55:46 +0000 UTC]

Unless the drawing is nothing but the lines with nothing behind it, then I pretty much end up inking. I ink in order to avoid having to use the multiply tool exclusively when coloring. If I color using a normal layer it becomes difficult to avoid coloring over the lines. Inking the lines without any background merged with the drawing gives me the freedom to color however I like without worrying about wiping out the lines, plus it makes the overall drawing really look vibrant.

I can color without resorting to inking if you wish. It has been a while since I have done that. It shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Lol that's what line art is. It's only the lines (hence "line art"). I use the a black brush to go over all the lines and then remove the scan underneath.

Yes, I was asking for the names of the characters. And I'll suggest names:

Rowling's .... Alternate Gender
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore ... Alba Guieneve Wulfrica Brianna Dumbldore
Severus Snape ... Severa Snape
Minerva McGonagall ... Minervus McGonagall 1
Harry James Potter ... Harrietta Lily Potter
Ronald Bilius Weasley "Ron" ... Ronalda Bilia Weasley "Ronnie" (Either Bilia, Fabia, or Molly)
Hermione Jean Granger ... Hermus John Granger
Ginerva Molly Weasley "Ginny" ... Anir Weasley "Gnger" 2 (Anir is an Arthurian legend name...)
Luna Lovegood ... Aku Lovegood (It's either this or Lunus Lovegood)
Neville Longbottom ... Nevillina Longbottom (or Nevilline Longbottom) 3
Draco Malfoy .. Scorpia Malfoy (Scorpia is a feminine version of Scorpius, which works)
Fred Weasley ... Fredda Weasley
George Weasley ... Georgetta Weasley
Cho Chang ... Chung Change (Chung means "intelligence" in Chinese)

----
1 I found the name Minervus by searching for masculine version of minerva in the Google search engine.

2 Gin's full name could be Anir Gideon Weasley β€” since Gin's older brother Bill has the full name William Arthur Weasley, I though Molly would want to honor Gideon Prewett; the nickname "Ginger" would be in reference to his hair, also "Ginger" could be shortened to simply "Gin" or "Ginny".) Another possibility for Ginger's full name is Anir Bilius Weasley (which could work if Gin's immediate older sibling "Ronnie" has the middle name Molly, then Bilius would work for Anir/Ginger.

3 That's either "nev-ah-line" (Nevilline) or "nev-ah-line-ah" (Nevillina) in pronunciation.

I am in talks with Branmuffinpower that may involve her to do a re-draw and me to ink, color, and text it. Nothing is set in stone, but at least things are being talked about.

As far as the assigning of names for the characters? Well I think the final arbiter should be the artist. All of the names are really wonderful, although putting the entire name like "Alba Guieneve Wulfrica Brianna Dumbldore" would make it a hard fit. Of course in that case Branmuffinpower has told me what looked like Dumbledore to me was really Voldemorte. Anyway, using the full names with so many characters bunched together will cover up much of the drawing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Shinwa-Tsuki In reply to Kimbawest [2014-02-13 09:20:59 +0000 UTC]

Ah, oh well. The artist could always clarify and give the full name in the description if s/he feels like it. I was more going for a name (or nickname) that would fit the altered gender, that's all.

If the artist wants to, s/he can always us the given name (and/or the nickname) I mentioned....

My best guess was Draco because she looked like she was plotting something. I ruled out the possibility she was Luna because the artist had drawn Hermione and Ginny as boys, so I figured if Luna was going to be present she would also be a boy. I honestly do not know for sure, but the artist never complained about me coloring her tie green to signify she was from Slytherine.

Oh, let me see:

1. Upper left corner is Snape, I gave her a purple robe to make her a bit more fem.
2. The girl with the toad on her head is Neville Longbottom.
3. The blonde wearing the green tie is Draco Malfoy. That’s just a guess on my part.
4. The red headed boy is Ginny Weasely. Very handsome I must say.
5. Upper right Corner is Head Mistress Dumbledore.
6. Red haired girl below Neville is Ron Weasely.
7. Next to Ron is of course Harry Potter.
8. Next to Harry is the dashing Hermione Granger.
9. Below Dumbledore might be Luna, but I can’t be too sure.
10. Below Snape are George and Fred Weasely.
11. Bottom right corner I believe is Cho Chang.

I think I am correct about most of the characters in the drawing, but I did not ask the artist specific details about who was who. I hope this answers your question.

Yes, that is pretty good. I remember seeing it a while ago, and I think I have it somewhere on my hard drive.

Since I can only color drawings from other artists. I look for the kind of artwork I know I will be able to enhance. Harry Potter is something of a thing with me. I wrote one complete story in which he, Ron, Dudley, and Draco all turn into girls. Actually, Draco turned into a half girl, half donkey on a temporary basis to be precise. My avatar is based on me as a Hogwarts Student (drawn by Crazycowproductions). So having said all that, when I saw the opportunity to color, not one, but two drawings of Harry Potter as a girl; Well, I just couldn't resist that.

Your drawing, as good as it is, was already colored, but if you ever decide to play with more tg'd Harry and friends, and wouldn't mind having me coloring it, then I'm right there on the spot.
