It kind of was, really. I mean, think about it:

You've been alive for centuries, if not at least three to eight thousand years or so, and suddenly, you're faced with something that can kill you and make you suffer. Not just something that can kill you instantly, oh no, this will make you feel every sensation as your skin melts away, and your bones meld together. So... when faced with death (or a fate worse than), and another chance at saving yourself to hopefully help ponykind in the future, what would you choose?

She stuck her mind in a computer. She could have gone elsewhere and survived. She didn't need to do that at all. Now she is trapped forever, or at least until the power dies.

Not true. She had been affected by the Pink Gas, which was basically melting her skin and organs and fusing her bones together.

So either live with eternal agony, or become a God in the Machine.

Yes, it was a stupid idea, but when your choices are dying painfully or becoming a robot...

I don't think Celestia had been affected by the Pink Gas, but ran once Luna died. So she ran unaffected to the SPP.

No... she was affected. I don't know if she was literally melting on her merry way over, but her body was suffering and was close to death.

Either that, or I'm remembering a completely different Apocalypse MLP fanfic and Celestia's continued existence in that one.

Read the entire thing last year but I'm not sure wither. I didn't think she was affected as she still had the shield up until Luna died and then dropped it and flew out. I would assume she put up a shield around herself on her way out.

They were both working equally to keep the shield, and they were both presumably sharing what healing potions they could find equally. 'Tia was in poor condition by the time Luna died. It's possible she could have recovered, but it would have been far from guaranteed, and she knew it.

I thought she'd ran out of power and that's why Luna died, and she fled, powerless. Which would then lead into her being affected by it.
