Description
Probably the best of my attempts at sculpting; It is based on the small idol that appears in "Call of Cthulhu"The overal features are based on my own Cthulhu design.Β Lovecraft - Great Cthulhu/ Spawn of Cthulhu II Β It's height is ~6.5 centimetes, including the block.
I might actually try painting it. I have never done it before though.
"The figure, which was finally passed slowly from man to man for close and careful study, was between seven and eight inches in height, and of exquisitely artistic workmanship. It represented a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind. This thing, which seemed instinct with a fearsome and unnatural malignancy, was of a somewhat bloated corpulence, and squatted evilly on a rectangular block or pedestal covered with undecipherable characters. The tips of the wings touched the back edge of the block, the seat occupied the center, whilst the long, curved claws of the doubled-up, crouching hind legs gripped the front edge and extended a quarter of the way clown toward the bottom of the pedestal. The cephalopod head was bent forward, so that the ends of the facial feelers brushed the backs of huge fore paws which clasped the croucher's elevated knees."
H.P. Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu"

Jack Chalker sold me a book on CAS' paintings & sculptures. It pretty well covered the topic.

The method I use to paint my epoxy sculptures is pretty easy on the wallet, and I like the results. I use acrylic paint and a water based polymer varnish. Using a mix of paint, varnish, and a little water I paint the sculpture in several coats. Try not to cake it on. For example, you could simply paint the whole thing in a light grey, and then add a light second coat of really diluted black to bring out the natural darks in the grooves of the sculpture.
Many of the miniature painter's are crazy good with years of experience. This method is by comparison easier but achieves a good result. I used this method on my Cursed Object and Worm Rider sculpts.

Thanks for much info. I think I will need to invest in better paints and paint brushes, the only brushes I have that are of better quality are somewhat difficult (maybe just to big) to deaal with painting the grooves. Smaller ones I got recently were so crappy in quality that I think I'll just throw them away. I guess I have a lot to learn

You don't need to buy expensive brushes, but you definitely need a range of sizes. I use multi-packs of made in China cheapo brushes that I can easily get in the U.S. or here in Korea. They are cheap, but the quality is way better than what you find in kid's water color kits. If it's a small sculpture, you need small flat brushes for doing coats and pointy tiny brushes for details. It's not that complicated, but everyone has their own preferences. You just gotta find what works best for you.

Well I didn't mean thet the other ones were much more expensive, because they hardly were, but their quality was much better. I guess it's all matter of practice and experience but any advices are much welcome so thank you.

Thanks man. One last thing, sponges are good for creating a kind of weathered effect as a final coat.
I suggest buying Instantmold or Oyumaru as an easy to use molding material to make copies of your sculpture. You can then play around with various paint schemes.^^

Your Cthulhu Idol is vetter than a lot of the ones showcased on there in my humble opinion.
(And I think yours definitely deserves a blog post on there)

Good choice! Are the models of this faction the originals? I mean, a lot of things had changed after the shitty Age of Sigmar published... Chaos Undivided or Mark of Khorne/Nurgle/Tzeentch/Slaanesh?

I don;t know I am not up to date with the changes in models. Hmm probably Tzeentch would be my favourite.
