Pitch Black was not really scary but when there was a scene with action in it the music was sooo cheesy, and I just thought it was funny.

Well, Pitch Black isn't meant to be scary, just to be a fun sci-fi action movie and it gets the job done. It's the best Riddick movie for sure.

Thanks. There are few clear representations of this creature. Still cool that they totally hunted through sound. That weird echo-location shriek.

Yeah, they are quite similar to some creatures from Barlowe's "Expedition" Have you read this book?

Chamjari In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2016-04-09 13:44:00 +0000 UTC]
Apparently, from the wiki I looked at because I wondered if Barlowe had actually designed them, the creatures are called Bioraptors. Not a super original name.
I never read Expedition, but I saw the Discovery Channel animated adaptation called "Alien Planet." It's pretty awesome to see those creatures animated.
As a kid, Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials (along with the Fiend Folio) was my monster/alien Bible (I especially dig his rendition of the insectoid Pnume from Jack Vance's Planet of Adventure). I also had two of his Power Lords figures, Arkus and Raygoth. Even among toys as weird as aliens from Star Wars and Battle Star Galactica, Micronauts aliens, and Sectaurs, these guys were absolutely bizarre.

I think you shoud check out the book as well, even though it might be hard to get it's worth it. While Alien Planet movie was awesome what it shows is just a small fraction of darwinian lifeforms that were mentioned in the books. vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/a… there is even one very close to Pitch Black monsters in shape.

I found it pretty cool. upon seeing the trailer I was convinced it's going to be a pathetic "Aliens" rip off but I grew fond of entire Riddick trilogy.

very cool creature, i wonder if you could do a sketch of the Space Jockey from Alien if it was alive?, i do not like the human-like depiction of the Jockeys in Prometheus so i would suggest something very alien maybe with the biomechanical body and head shape.

Maybe I will.. but to be honest, Xenomorph itse;f is more probable. I also liked Giger's original design more.

... The characters were all poorly written, they took a shit on the mystery and fascination of the Space Jockeys, the dialogue is the fuckest bologna shit you'll wish you'd never heard, there are numerous inconsistencies with the lore of the series, and there are more plot holes in it than fucking swiss cheese.
I'm sorry, but I can't respect an opinion that's wrong. All I can do is call it "stupid" and brush it off.

Yeah they were unique..like Hammerhead Shark gargoyles...Vin Diesel is otherwise forgettable except for Riddick who is a great sci fi character..he should just make Riddick films.

Hah, hammerhead!

I have a theory on why their harmed by light. There's a chemical in the cave rocks that violently reacts to light and it seeps into the subterranean water supplies and when they drink the water the chemical is gradually absorbed into their flesh as they grow. That would explain why the babies are more tolerant of light.

Pitch Black is one of my top favorite movies of all time! I got very excited when I saw that you drew one of its monsters! I could be wrong, but I believe they were called bioraptors. Anyway, you did an excellent job getting the monster's design down. You gave it a good sense of sharp, vicious speed.
I'm more of a book person myself. I don't dislike movies, but there are only a handful of which I really like, mostly strange fantasy films with really good effects (like The Dark Crystal, Alien, Prometheus, Hayao Miyazaki films, etc.). I can honestly live without most other movies. I prefer the imagination that comes with reading books, which is also one reason why I love your work.

I have very similar views to you, and similar liking of movies.. ALthough I definately prefer original Alien to Prometheus. I also like Hayao Miyazaki movies and I will probably draw something from them eventually as well.
