Description I've been seeing a lot of images that use focal blur that IN MY OPINION could have possibly used other methods to reach their full potential! I created this guide that might help some figure out when to use it and when not to!

Also I just wanna say the focal blur is never really NEEDED but it can create a cool effect if that's what you're going for! I tend to use it a lot!

Also, this is all from what I've learnt and my own opinions! You may have other ideas and that's entirely fine!!

OOH while I'm here I forgot to mention on the tutorial, gaussian blur is NOT the same as focal blur! It will create a very different effect!

ADIOS, HOPE IT HELPS!

This is very awesome! The other concepts that you mentioned to create focus are things I've been trying to focus on lately.

Do you know any other art programs or sites that let you use focal blur for free? I don't exactly have the money for photoshop...

Actually they released the CS2 version for free, you just need to make an account

I haven't used it in years but GIMP is a free program that has a lot of blurs and filters available.

It's funny you posted this the day after I finished a piece where I used focal blur for the first time. XD

I love the focal point effect haven't used it before! But sometimes don't you feel it covers the details of the background? Do you ever save a copy of both with and without the effect? Just curious ^^

I usually don't detail backgrounds much if I know I'm going to focal blur! I usually lay down swabs of colour and make very rough layouts that'll simulate the shapes I want when blurred!
