Description
I just wanted to offer some insight into what my thinking process is for some of the matchups I do. It may be easier to just drop the matchup shtick all together and just make crossover art, but I don’t want to, so here are the general categories that my matchups can fall into
Aesthetic Matchup:
A matchup based on two characters looking similar or having complimenting aesthetics. Ex. Enderman vs The Hide Behind (Lanky, Dark, Stalkers) Adam Taurus vs Kylo Ren (Dark Attire, Red blades, Masks)
Narrative Matchup:
A matchup based on the stories of the characters. Ex. B.O.Y.D vs Penny (Robotic children trying to find their place in everything) Korra vs She-Ra (Bearers of a title/power that’s passed on generation by generation)
Power Matchup:
A Matchup based on two characters with similar power sets/styles. Ex. Iron Man vs Erza Scarlet (Vast armor selections that can easily be called upon in battle) Scorn vs Malware (Fluid forms that make use of techno weaponry)
Character Matchup:
A matchup based on who the characters are and how they act regardless of the difference in story or setting. Ex. Spinel vs Cassandra (Vengeful side characters that fell to the wayside in favor of another’s goals) Catra vs Sasha (Characters forced to survive by their own skills and means, aggressive rivals to the protagonist)
