Joyce is a pokemon field-research assistant in Viridian City, Kanto, and housemates with this kid: [link]He is extremely OCD with his research, which is extremely lucky for the grad-students/professors he works with. ("Hey, Joyce, go sit in this tree for 8 hrs and record the different wing spans of pidgeys." "Ok!") Currently he is "technically" on leave, but is working on his thesis and observing how pokemon adapt to non-native climates.
Joyce's got kind of a smart mouth on him and is one of those kind-of-condescending-nerds. Don't point out his name's actually a girl's name, or joke about his weight. He'll probably hit you (unless you're a girl. then he'll just yell at you) and then go emo in a corner. (Was a fat kid all the way through middle school, but being friends with Xavier meant they were running away from someone all the time, so he worked it off.)
BTW, he gets WAY distracted by cute pokemon to a point where you could probably mug him and take all his stuff and he wouldn't notice.

Pokemon:
Tesla - Joyce's starter. "Tess" for short. She's aggressive and pretty protective of Joyce. She's also the pokemon that is most usually on Joyce's team (He's a researcher, so often switches pokemon in and out, though obviously not in this contest). Don't try to pet her, she's bitey and not-sociable.
Lance - Lance is blind, but he compensates for it so it's as if he's not blind. AKA, there's no real good reason for mentioning he's blind other than funsies. (... shoulda named 'im daredevil.)
Nova - One of Joyce's water-travelers. Let's face it, Joyce will probably wanna go exploring to observe pokemon, and he's on some islands. He'll need Nova.
Ebenezer "Stone of help." Useful for spelunking and maneuvering inside caves. Saved Joyce's arse more than a few times.(Sense a theme? Joyce is using the contest as an excuse to go exploring.)
NightCrawler - Aggressive and competitive, but would still lose in a fight against Tesla.
Clarity - The healer of the group, and is a tad mischievous.

What an interesting trainer! And I love how he's a researcher, much like my pokemon trainer OC, Sybil! ^^ Haha! I find it funny that his pikachu has the same name as Sybil's Goruugu!
Man, it'll be nice if the two of them became friends... Sybil has yet to find a friend who's a researcher. XP I bet the two of them would get along crazily fine. (and adding pressure to that "crazily" XDD).
Oh, and I musn't forget, I really like the way you draw humans. And the combinations of Joyce's hair with his green eyes is a kill.
