Again, a request from someone. And again, like the rock tutorial, this is just a really quick scribbly thing explaining the very basics of what I do, and considering the fact that I change how I paint practically every time I do it ... well, my techniques change pretty constantly. xD But this might give you a better basic idea. Except for the embers, this all occurs on a single layer.

#1 - (Watercolor brush) - I started this out in Paint Tool SAI, but you can utilize many of the same tools in Manga Studio for this! Make a new layer on top of your background (I choose a simple black one). Get the basic shape of the fire down in orange on this new layer.

#2 - (Pencil brush) - Using the pencil brush, get the basic shape of the highlights down, choosing a lighter orange-yellow color. Doesn't have to be perfect!

#3 - (Watercolor brush) - With the same orange-yellow color, blend the highlights into the rest of the flames.

#4 - (Watercolor brush) - With a darker red, I blend in the edges of the flame.

#5 - (Watercolor brush) - I set the dilution of the watercolor brush to 100%, then take the same dark red and use upwards strokes to further define the bottom of the flames. You should be able to basically erase/smooth out portions of the fire that you don't want there.

#6 - (Pencil brush) - I add another layer of highlights on top of my first ones.

#7 - (Watercolor brush) - With the same color as #6, I blend the top highlights into the rest of the flames.

#8 - Ignore, I added an extra copy of #7, and I am too lazy to go back and fix it. xD xD Jump to #9!

#9 - (Pencil brush) - Add a new layer on top of the flames layer. Using the pencil brush, make a lot of little dots for embers.

# 10 - At this point, I moved the file into Manga Studio. I duplicated the embers layer, and set the top layer to Luminosity. The bottom embers layer I went to Filter --> Blur --> Gaussian Blur, and added a blur filter to it. I also went back to the flames layer to add a bit more detail, by clicking the 'Transparent Watercolor' brush, setting the brush to transparency, and then adding short strokes to the edges of the flames.
