You know how digimon shows sometimes have side digimon with no tamer? Y'know, like Calumon in tamers, and Bokumon and Nemon in frontier? Or in Digimon Harmonize MaGatomon?
Well, here's the Calumon of my series, a Renamon named Ri-en.
...don't get me wrong. Renamon's a badass who's the sole reason I'm still into digimon. Plus, making Renamon a main character would easily hook a considerable number of readers into this thing.

Anyways, I suppose I should get into her backstory:

Ri-en grew up alongside her big brother, a CloudRenamon named Chris. They were orphans growing up in the Hidden Village, a solitary but thriving settlement of ninja digimon. They lived happy lives under the care of the village elder, Karatenmon. Chris was a bit popular among the village residents. Being a rare species of Renamon, he was certainly a rare sight, on top of how few Renamon resided in the village.
Unfortunately, Ri-en's happy days came to an end. Sometime after the war started with BlitzLucemon, the village was attacked. Without any ties to other nearby settlements, they had only their own strength to fend off the invading force. However, their strength wasn't enough. In the end, only Ri-en survived. Everyone else either wasn't seen again, or was turned into data and absorbed. Ri-en was left with no one and nowhere to turn to.

But just when she had no hope, along came a human. He ended up becoming Ri-en's tamer. In fact, he's the one who gave her that name. It took a while, but the guy helped his partner cheer up.
This guy was also fighting in the war. And it turns out he was skilled enough to enable his partner digimon to digivolve into Kyubimon; a feat only the best of Renamon can pull off. She even digivolved further into Taomon. They were making good progress in the war.
Ri-en also met a Guilmon named Gash. Gash was a very skillful and experienced Guilmon who could digivolve into Growlmon, and then again into WarGrowlmon, whenever he wanted. He supported Ri-en in the war, and with any emotional problems she suffered as well. Ri-en fell in love with Gash, and they legit even planned to get married like a human couple. That makes two beings Ri-en deeply cares about; her tamer, and her future lover.
However, Gash perished in the war. He bravely died in the form of WarGrowlmon. Ri-en was in tears at that moment. But Gash wasn't the last to perish. Her tamer died too.
Unfamiliar with the human body or human means of recovery, Ri-en fled to the human world, in hopes of saving the last person that gave light to her life. But unfortunately, she couldn't save the guy in time. Ri-en's tamer died right in front of her.
The worst part was that she got this scar on her leg the same time her tamer perished. It sends pain through her leg quite often, as she's always walking on it. Whenever it does, she's reminded of sorrowful memories of her lost partner. With the exception of sleeping, she can't go 10 minutes without her mind being flooded by pain and loss.
Her tamer had one dying wish: he wanted to be remembered for as long as possible. So Ri-en tries being mysterious like her tamer, as a means of living out his memory. It wasn't much, but it was something.

Ever since then, Ri-en has been wandering the continent of North America, hoping to find purpose to her new life on planet Earth. She encountered several rush digimon that attacked humans, fighting all of them, and beating almost any digimon champion level or lower. And for the less than pleasant experiences (most of em anyways), she encountered a lot of Renamon fans. However, almost all of them were a bit... well... you know.
Anyways, with no one left to give her life meaning, but no room in her mind for suicidal intention, Ri-en has been wandering the country for the past eight years now. Deep down, she refuses to believe her tamer is dead. Maybe someday, the two will be reunited?

Oh yeah. I forgot to give her personality.
Ri-en's personality is similar to that of a normal Renamon: she does her best to stay calm and level-headed, and like a real ninja, every attack she dishes out is unleashed with the intent to finish things off. However, this poor gal hasn't been able to keep the typical level-headedness of a Renamon. That scar on her leg won't let her stop thinking about her painful past, which weakens her ability to focus. She's been slightly clumsy every now and then, and a chance to see her tamer again can easily throw her off her game. But she's still acceptable on the battlefield. And she's got a knack for picking up on unexpected sounds even in noisy areas.
Ri-en has strong beliefs on what memories are and what their value is. After all, aside from her tamer's digivice she carries with her, memories are all she has left of him.
Ri-en also has a strong disliking for typical Renamon fans (for obvious reasons), and isn't exactly fond of people who comment on her looks as a furry.
Another thing she's had a disliking for is tears. Her tamer was determined to stop that war because the digital world "had shed enough tears." If her tamer hated tears, then saving others from weeping would be a good way to keep his memory alive.

The digimon flash creator i used goes to Hapuriainen. (But i drew some more stuff on there. Specifically, the digivice, the scar, and the slight tear in her sleeve. Plus, I drew lines to make it match the quality of my iPad's markup feature)
