Late reply (sorry), but I would guess it's to make it easier to hold in a chainsaw grip. Similar to a Z-6, but probably designed so that it can be put back to its normal orientation if it's set up on a turret. Of course, that's only guesswork.

i really like this. you can still see the m60 reference which works for star wars as the main props team used guns from other movies that were winding down. But why make the handle cocked sideways?(or maybe thats how it is in the lore)
