Well, you kinda got to view this image in its full size to appreciate how beautiful Inky is! And if you love her eyes, then her lips and philtrum will take your breath away! (Shameless self-promotion on my part, I know! But somebody has to do it!)

June 3, 2012 - Painting finished (after another 25 minutes added)
Just in time to make the deadline! In this step, I worked on her hair, the highlights, and lightening the background a little. Overall, it has been a real pleasure to paint Inky!

June 2, 2012 - Late night - another 30 minutes:
A final stretch of the day to get Inky's portrait a little closer to completion. In this step, I worked a little bit on her hair just to adjust her lips and nose. I also put on the "correct" color of the background. The final step would be to work on her hair to completion, fine tune the background, and add some highlight on her face and hair. Simply must not rush this step!

It's 11:30PM now. I'm sleepy. Time to bed, KD baby! Tomorrow is another day!

June 2, 2012 - another 30 minutes:
Working on this while checking out fabulous paintings of Inky on Sumopaint (see her journal [link] )

I know! I know! Her lips look like some smeared lipstick and her nose is not perfect yet. But that is why it is still WIP 8! I will work on her hair around the lip area and come back to these. Piece of cake then!

Looking like I may be able to finish the painting by the end of Sunday, June 3, 2012 -- beating the deadline!

I will probably make a tutorial from this. All the steps are already here!

May 30, 2012 - another 45 minutes:
Well, this time it was 3:00 AM when I woke up (from kinda a nightmare, btw)! So, I gave another 45 minutes to the painting. I think it is moving forward, closer towards completion, but I'm not sure. Perhaps two more sittings (one for the hair, background, highlights and another for minor correction and wrap-up) then I will be done with it.

At this point, I wish I had Inky sitting in front of me (instead of her photo) so I can work out all the nuances of colors and light/dark values more efficiently and accurately. A photo has its own limits in presenting colors; and so are my eyes in analyzing them!

May 28, 2012 - another 30 more minutes (I think!):
I spent the whole day playing outdoors yesterday (Memorial Day's Weekend in the US of A, anyway!) So much fun and so much Sun. So, I tried to work on this painting a little bit today.

One of these days I will finish this painting, hopefully in time to submit for the May contest, I hope! Anyhow, Inky is getting lovelier everyday!

May 25, 2012 - another 30 more minutes:
I woke up around 4:00AM or so and decided to continue working on the painting. So, I fiddled here and there and realized that I messed up the proportions in earlier stages. One thing led to another, I ended up spending about 30 minutes on the painting just to get the proportion the way I wanted it. The whole 30 minutes felt so much like the systematic-and-methodical-technique-of-measuring sh1t they taught you in art school! At least, I feel better looking at the painting, knowing that the likeness will be improved after this step. Whew!!!

The whole thing is probably due to my being a perfectionist, or my loving the act of painting this portrait of Inky so much, so I take my time and never want to finish it!

You be the judge!

May 22, 2012 - another 30 more minutes:
Busy night, but I managed to add 30 minutes to the painting. Inky is getting more and more beautiful each time I stop. If an artist could start falling in love with the model in the painting, this would be the time.

May 21, 2012 - another 30 more minutes:
So I added another 30 minutes to the painting. I believe I have passed the critical point of the painting. After this point, I would be able to paint much faster. That said, I decided to stop here because I was so dead tired! Besides, make you wait!

May 20, 2012 - 30 minutes more in the evening:
Starting to work on the details of her eyes and facial complexion. It was ton of fun and pleasures just to play with all the complex colors and tones on her face. Also, the eyes and expression are just so awesome to paint!

Since I was too busy, I had to stop after spending another 30 minutes on the painting.

May 20, 2012 - 30 minutes:
I love this photo of Inky for many reasons...

WHAT?!! Do I have to spell it out for you, or what?! Think for yourself (why I like it), will ya?!

Anyway, I will take time to paint this piece, because I know I will enjoy painting it so much. I also know you will love the painting when I'm done.

Oh, and Inky, thanks for posting it. I so love painting this beautiful face of yours!
