Description When I was a kid our local fair would have sideshows. I saw every thing from two headed calves to a girl turn into a gorilla. That does not mention the peep show that you had to be an adult to see.

The gorilla girl scared the hell out of me since she ran at the crowd and we all ran out screaming. Then we paid 10 cents to see the old Mummy movie at a carnival. My favorite was the house of mirrors which was a maze.

Now it is all fast rides that try to make kids hurl, I haven't see a car or tram ride or a walk though haunted house at a fair in years. I guess those are a thing of the past but they were fun.

Thank you. While I love inking, I have never really gotten in to totally darkening in areas.

Very interesting. I half expected the picture to be named "Carnies" though. That might have offended some people I guess. LOL Good work Kip.

I really thought about it but decided against it just for the reason you mentioned. Plus, what is scarier sometimes....the carney or the ride?

i can't tell you how much i like this its so true to form of what the carnival was when i was a kid, i say kid cause i stay away from them now a days because you couldn't get me on any of those rides but i forgot about the mirrors and the optical illusion house that give you a cheap lesson on perspective if you're sharp. really love the pen work, i've been leaning in that direction myself lately. lol the guy looks a bit like my cousin Jimbo except this guys lo has most of his teeth, will someones teeth anyway.. peace and love

Fairs and carnivals are not what they used to be, and they don't make carneys like they used to. Hell, they were as interesting as their wares and that is what I tried to show here.

I'm currently working with ink in art class and I hate it >_<
It just looks awful (at least I think so) . akk!

Thank you. I didn't like it years ago but it has grown on me. I really have grown to like Bernie Wrightson who has done interior illustrations for some of Stephen King's novels. He has made me appreciate and try to give ink illustration a go.

Yeah, I've seen beautiful ink work, so it is inspiring to me. ^_^
I just don't like the whole cross-hatching technique. I don't like how it looks.

Me neither really, that is why I want to learn to do it well. Right now I think I am pretty crappy at it since I have neglected to try it all of these years. I was the same with watercolors and now I love them better than oils....and I really like oils.

Yes! I wish I had worked more with inks back in high school.
Water colors is something I have yet to experiment much with. Though I DO like water colors.

I really didn't take watercolor until my senior year at ATU. I always had the misconception that since it is what we give little kids then I couldn't take it seriously as a real artistic medium. That class opened my eyes to how cool a transparent medium like watercolor, gouache and inks really are and how there are so many fun tips and techniques to using them. I was in class with many people who were much older than I such as Gloria Garrison who is now a very well known southern watercolorist.

I learned a lot from her.

That's so cool. I have yet to meet in "good" artists. I think most of the students in my class are only taking it for their Fine Arts credit. And I'm planning my schedule for next semester. Art history and 3D design seem to be the classes I'll have which I'm not too excited about

Before I had Art History classes I felt the same way but I ended up really loving the classes. I took the night classes with Max Hines. Your parents know him, he teaches at Russellville High school. I liked Art History so much I took as many classes as I could, I learned so much. Sasha's cousin Ashley is an Art History major that is going to go to law school to specialize in copyright law, which might work to both mine and your advantage to have someone close to us that knowlegable in that area in case we need her.
I think you will love 3D design too. Seriously, I want to get into metal arts. I would love to weld sculptures.

My drawing and painting classes had a lot of local artists that were adults at the time taking classes for the fun of it and wanting to maybe brush up on something or learn a new technique. I think I learned a lot from them and even a lot from other students. While there were many people that I thought were in college to party or that they really didn't care about art, I did have some fellow students my age that were good.

Sculpture and the pottery wheel have never been my thing
In high school, we made a pot and I felt like it was such a waste of time. lol
It's not that I can't make a decent pot, I just did care much for it.
Now, carving might be fun. Or working with glass.

I really like the texture of the ink pen. I prefer old fashioned fairs. I can't stand rides (get dizzy easily). I been to one of those mirror maze things a long time ago, and I remember bumping hard into a mirror. It was kinda funny.

I get dizzy too. I think too many inner ear infections really messed me up as a kid. I cannot even play FPS games without getting motion sickness.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JudgeOfDeath In reply to kzeor [2007-11-13 15:08:11 +0000 UTC]

I get motion sickness from FPS too. I used to play this old computer game where I played it until I got so sick, I had to lie down for hours. I still can't finish Half-Life because of it too. It sucks. I've gotten dizzy from play Grand Theft Auto 3 but I think it was because I keep staring at the car rather than the road.

Have you waken up sometimes in the morning with your room spinning and you can't stop your eyes from moving? I got that a few times. One was before I was to go on a holiday trip with my mom. Is that similar to inner ear infection?

kzeor In reply to JudgeOfDeath [2007-11-14 02:28:46 +0000 UTC]

The dizziness makes me mad because I know there are some really good games that I really cannot play because of it. I haven't had that to happen to me unless I was sick with an ear infection. But, they hurt bad and you run a temperature. You sure you were not drunk?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JudgeOfDeath In reply to kzeor [2007-11-15 15:03:33 +0000 UTC]

Haha, no I don't drink at all. And I'm all fine the day before. Someone told me before that it has something to do with your ear. I'm just not sure what exactly and how to possibly prevent it.

trulyonetoo In reply to JudgeOfDeath [2007-11-15 22:51:52 +0000 UTC]

damn girl (sorry to interrupt) but hell yes its your ear unless you have an abbess in one of your back teeth that might cause it also, but the way to prevent it is go see a doctor preferably an ear nose and throat guy and get some antibiotics, ..jeez ...what if that crap hits you in traffic... speaking from experience, now get ..go do it ... and then tell us what he said.... peace and love

Hey, I don't mind (you're not a stranger who I've never talked to before, lol). And sorry for the late reply, I've been way too busy lately so I'm far behind on answering and reading messages. But I am going to get a check up sometime during my holiday in December. I haven't had one in a long time and it's rare. But I'll let you know if there is a real problem

thats cool then just didn't want you thinking i was some kind of butt monkey trying to tend your affairs.. i know you are a super busy girl (sounds like a Beatles song) and don't expect replies right away. thats was a bit scary though i bet waking up with the room spinning. never heard of getting dizzy playing a video game, but these new games are so realistic i can believe it. hope everything checks out okay and you have a great holiday. do you guys do Thanksgiving? peace and love

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JudgeOfDeath In reply to trulyonetoo [2007-11-18 15:59:52 +0000 UTC]

It is scary. Because it feels like it came out of no where. It's not like I was sick the night before and plus, I couldn't stop my eyes from moving. I only get dizzy from playing first person shooters. So games like Half-Life and Doom I'll get really sick after playing for a few minutes. My family and I don't celebrate Thanksgiving. Do you have any plans?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

trulyonetoo In reply to JudgeOfDeath [2007-11-18 17:01:56 +0000 UTC]

i don't believe i've ever heard of an ear problem quite like that. maybe its vertigo or something. do you drive? it scares me to think it might effect you in traffic. be really interesting to see what the doctor says.
no plans for thanksgiving not really i got the week off which was unplanned and weird but Kats doesn't... usually we have her mom here but well not this year, Travis has to work he does most holidays so i don't know... she bought the turkey but i bet it doesn't get cooked, it'ld be a lot of work for two people especially since Kat hardly eats anything anyways. oh well such is life... good luck with the dizziness i'll be thinking of you... peace and love

JudgeOfDeath In reply to trulyonetoo [2007-11-19 15:56:54 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I think it might be vertigo, but not sure. I don't drive so it's good. I don't know if it just happens suddenly, and so far, the only time they occur is when I wake up. It's too bad that your son has to work during the holidays. Sounds like you'll have tons of leftovers.

trulyonetoo In reply to JudgeOfDeath [2007-11-19 16:23:08 +0000 UTC]

it might be vertigo hopefully its just something simple like a vitamin deficiency, but check this out ..[link] i've never heard of anything like it but it sounds like it might be about right, its computer related. maybe you're working to hard. uummm... another reason i found was, and don't kick my please, is pregnancy... hey it was there ...what do i know..
i don't know if Kats even going to cook now, shes talking about spending the day at the hospital with her mom, maybe we'll just do it later...

JudgeOfDeath In reply to trulyonetoo [2007-11-20 15:24:18 +0000 UTC]

I can see that I've been working on the computer way too much. And no it's not pregnancy, lol! My mom had the same thing before and she did went to see a doctor because it was even worse than mine. And I think her doctor said that it was something about the inner ear.

trulyonetoo In reply to JudgeOfDeath [2007-11-20 15:32:11 +0000 UTC]

yes well sorry about that , i didn't think so , i've had dizzy spells off and on before and it was my Rheumatoid A that had slipped into my jaw bone or the joint under the ear and everything got a little swollen and irritated, was a fun couple weeks, especially the shots lol i also notice as i get older that any kind of elevation makes me dizzy, step ladders , roadsides that have steep drop on the shoulder , doesn't take much.. i didn't know that the computer could cause things like that though... i have had my eyes get blurry or do that little flicker in and out of focus thing for a second or two, do you work on the computer with your job all day?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JudgeOfDeath In reply to trulyonetoo [2007-11-22 15:52:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I work on the computer almost all day everyday. I know computer does cause a lot of health problems. I've heard about radiation from computer screens. I try to take rests every hour, but sometimes I'd forget because I'm on a tight schedule or just forgot to take rests.

well at least you are aware of it and you got to do what you feel is best but you should try to not let it run you down or do you harm. sometimes you can get more done if you take a bit of a break every so often.
