Description
Of all the first FF games that came out, Final Fantasy 5 is arguably the game that almost got beaten by the "middle brother" syndrome (in that it was put between two of the most awesome FF games). Why almost? It might be just me, but FF5 was one of the few games that combined a compelling story with a bit of symbolism. The carefreeness that you are introduced into and the conflicting element of the void that threatens to swallow everything, for the most "carefree" reason of all: it simply exists. How one of the 5 main characters, Faris, tries to escape her destiny of being a princess of a kingdom, and yet another, Krile is up and ready to take on her grandpa's position to help Bartz, afte her perishes to Exdeath.Conflicting symbolisms that even carry out to the villains as well. Yes, people, I am reffering to the one and only and, in the end, ultimately likable chap, Gilgamesh. Proof that comic relief characters can very well pack a punch and still be awesome while doing it. XD
Gilgamesh kind of balances Exdeath, as weird as it may sound. Exdeath was one of the FF villains who followed the Emperor approach: "don't care for what I do, I still win in the end even if I die". That kinda behaviour was ultimate to say the least, so Exdeath would get boring quite fast. Best way to solve it? Introduce an honorable right-hand man who can feel compasion about those he faces and is not inherently evil, but just a weapons-obsessed fella who is looking for a good fight. XD
All in all, FF5 is more like a "food for thought" type of game, especially when you consider the job system it has, which puts you into quite some thinking for the best battle prowees (though once you get the Mimic job, which is the most optimum for an endgame team, as shown, little battle strategy is then left to be said XD).
