Description
This art piece is for the Couples Contest on the StarTrek group. My Star Trek OC, Catherine Evergreen, is dancing with Data on the holodeck and the setting is in the Victorian era for Valentines Day. The reason Data is smiling in this picture is because Dr.Crusher advised him to smile and pretend he's having a good time dancing. I tried to draw a ballroom background but I thought it was too complicated to draw so instead I drew a moonlight background with a castle. As for Data's outfit it's based from the, "Times Arrow Part1-2" episode since I wanted it to be accurate towards the time setting.Art Style- Disney (c)

I was thinking of drawing Verelan but I wasn't sure how she would look like. So would Verelan look like the artist's (the artist on the link you gave me) depiction of your OC?

Yes, that's pretty much what she looks like. I just finished the lineart on two drawings... Safefta in a TOS minidress and then Safefta in a Mirror universe female uniform.

Yes, but two things have to happen first:
I need my colored pencils.
I need the scanner.

I will rant about the term Mary Sue especially if an OC has a "tragic past"= Mary Sue when people in reality go through tragic events like rape, war, bullying, being the last of their kind in a village like in Africa, etc.

Be careful about rants like that. I'll bring a up a point or two:
yes, these things happen (Just ask Safefta). What people are unhappy about is when the tragic past is just used to gain sympathy and the actual effects of the trauma aren't really taken into account. Instead the characters just whine about their 'poor tragic pasts', are never in the wrong if they break the rules, and yadayadayda.
*shrug*

Why because people would get insulted?
I get the idea behind your argument . My point is that people or Mary Sue critics shouldn't assume nor mix up characters with a realistic tragic past with characters with over-exaggerated/unrealistic tragedies. It's characters like those that make "tragic past" look bad.

People get insulted or start arguments or accuse you of being ignorant or lalala.
You're correct in that point. But except in rare circumstances or people who pick them out 'willy nilly', when someone labels a victim sue it's for a good reason.

So far I'm surprised no one has gotten insulted by my previous journal rants. Of course a journal rant is different than going on the DA forums and ranting which I'd rather avoid and if I do I will most likely encounter rude snarky people on there. Besides the chances are low if someone is going to get insulted by a journal rant because not everyone reads them nor bother searching for them. If they are insulted all I can say is they shouldn't have bothered reading it in the first place. After all I am free to think what I want and just because someone gets butt hurt in the process it won't change my viewpoint. As far as insulting I can only think if racial slurs, gay slurs, and demeaning someone's intelligence

If you put things on the internet, people have the right to read, get angry, and comment as they please. but it;s how we handle that kind of thing that makes up better people.

Ok you do make a valid point on that. I guess what I would say that is that I am an not a telepath so I can't read your mind of what I say or write on here is going to be offensive. That's why lately on my journal rants I say that before anyone wants to continue reading it. After all what one thinks isn't going to be offensive could be offensive to someone else and there's no way one could know that unless they are going into controversial issues like gay marriage and abortion

VoidSauce In reply to LadyData [2013-04-15 17:10:22 +0000 UTC]
I can understand the controversy with Abortion but with gay marriage the opposition confuses me. ;_;
Ok, anyway... It's good to have that little 'disclaimer' before you rant, but people are going to read and comment as they please regardless.

This reminds me of the episode where Dr. Crusher was teaching Data how to Tango, if I remember the dance correctly.
I love how you've rendered the background. The blue clock tower and the pink castle contrast nicely.
