Description (Note: The other picture of Rivendell is still here, just in my scraps.)

This is a self-designed, handknit sweater inspired by Lord of the Rings. There's quite a story behind this one; I wanted a sweater that echoed the atmosphere of the Elven dwelling place. The rich jewel tone and belled sleeves mimic the clothing styles, while the cables are pulled directly from the architecture. The mirrored cables on the sleeves are pulled from a bookshelf border in the movie set. The chest cable is a combination of a lower bookshelf border and the trellises that arch over the outside pathways.

The sweater is worked in allover reverse stockinette stitch with garter hems on the sleeves and body. I added waist shaping to make it fit better, since I am not shaped like a box. The raglan decreasing is worked in knit stitch to make it pop and echo the cables, and the hems and neck are edged in applied i-cord. There are Japanese short rows that add shaping to the shoulders; I borked them up a little, so they're more visible than I wanted, but that's a minor point.

All in all, I am very pleased with it. I plan to tighten up the pattern and submit it to a knitting magazine sometime in the near future; hopefully it will be up for sale soon after that.

Um, at the moment it's still in the chicken-scratch stage. *sweatdrop* I'm in my last semester of college so pattern-writing is on the very back burner at the moment. Come May, though, I can give it more attention! Thank you for being interested!

finally found some one on DA who had knitted something more complicated than a hat... im currently learning, im intermediate i guess. ill be starting my first big project as soon as i get the $ for the yarn, ill most likely go with a skirt since its not as complicated... id have a hard time not putting cables on my first one like you did here, the math is still a bit intimidating...

I just came across your work. Absolutely beautiful. You're very talented for sure. Are you sweater patterns for the Rivendell and Lothlorien commercially available? I would love to give them a try.

Sorry for the late reply! The patterns aren't available yet, but I am working hard on getting them ready for sale. Rivendell is the closest to being done; Lothlorien still needs some work. Thank you for the lovely comment!

LadyTemeraire In reply to ACWN-Designs [2012-07-05 00:16:03 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! ^_^ Um, I generally don't take commissions on human-sized garments, simply because people generally balk at the price. PM me if you're really interested and we can talk.

STUNNING. I love the added detail of the bell sleeves... it's the thing that makes it that step... MORE than a cabled sweater. As a cabled sweater, it's stunning, but those sleeves take it that extra step into Epic.

Late reply is late, but I just wanted to say - thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. It really means a lot to me, and has me smiling every time I see it. I'm glad you like the sweater so much!

You learn knitting in high school

LadyTemeraire In reply to RedNihao [2012-02-09 00:23:17 +0000 UTC]

Heh... sort of. The high school I went to had something called J-term. During the month of January, you would have one morning class and one afternoon class. It fit an entire semester's worth of content into one month. I wanted to do the BattleBots course; unfortunately, it was full up with upperclass boys, and I got put into my second-choice class. That happened to be a knitting/discussion course taught by my English teacher. She taught us the basics, and I went nuts and taught myself everything from there.

Clear as mud, huh?

It is absolutely clear, I assure you It's very interesting, knitting has completely disappeared in school here

You absolutely MUST write this up and sell it on ravelry, tons of people (including myself) would buy this for a reasonable price!! I want to make one so bad!!

LadyTemeraire In reply to Maranox [2011-09-30 16:47:11 +0000 UTC]

I'm working on it, I promise! I actually just did a photoshoot at the Ohio Ren Faire last weekend, so it's one step closer to being ready.

Thank you! And I know right? I don't know any woman out there who is shaped like a box, so why are all our clothes shaped like ---> | | that?

And aww, thanks. ^_^

GlassCamel In reply to LadyTemeraire [2011-08-24 06:43:08 +0000 UTC]

I don't know any woman out there who is shaped like a box - the common sense, it causes joy.

You need to start your own clothing line. I think all the other designers have forgotten what curves are!

LadyTemeraire In reply to GlassCamel [2011-08-27 20:21:05 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, thanks! You gotta love how it's a complete crapshoot to find fitted clothes, and even those that are fitted half the time have other non-flattering aspects, like, oh, Big. Horizontal. Stripes. (Vogue Knitting, I am looking straight at you.)

Hee. ^_^ Well, I do have several other patterns planned, so we'll see what happens!

Oh my god, those cables are absolutely incredible. My mom just recently started teaching me how to knit, and I'm following in her love of cables with a sweater I started last week from Brave New Knits, but this is just...

Wow. Utterly fantastic. There aren't even words.
