When will I have mine… that will make me believe that true love does exist?
Segue: These are Tasuki and Miaka from the anime, “Fushigi Yuugi”. Tasuki has always been there to protect Miaka. But he never had her in the end.
I kinda got crazy with Miaka's hair, though >.<

lol, I really do like it. I haven't seen the anime, so I don't feel like I'm in a place to critique. I made a joke instead

Well, the only major thing I can think of to criticize... is the fact that when anime characters kiss, it tends to look like two paper dolls. So what I would do is shade rather heavily between the eyes on (I'm guessing miaka's) side to account for the shadow generated by the light source. There are some other things I would need to consult the anime before criticizing. Hope that helps

I just found the picture reference. After looking at that, I have way more problems with that pic. You reduplicated it with pencil pretty well.

Also, another thing would be highlights. I remember back when I drew with pencil and paper back in elementary school, I hated shading with a passion (that comes with using a crappy N2 pencil.) Anyway I found that you could always make something look darker next to something lighter, so I'd use a nice eraser to create highlights on things like hair. Funny thing was that I never was able to get a hold of better pencils till middle school. The worst part was the fact I never used them because I was worried about getting spoiled with good pencils and not get any more, so I gave them to my sister
Now I don't expect you to go ripping apart nice erasers and sharpening them; but the best way I've found to draw dark hair is to make the hair really dark and then erase highlights into the picture to generate form (or not draw them in), then lightly shade in the highlights till they make sense with the tone of the hair. Also, make sure that the hair not in direct contact with light is darker then the rest.

yeah, shading could really be a problem for me. i have sweaty palms and things could really get messy if i forgot to put, say a tissue to shield the canvass. >.<
ahh.. now i really have to do my research about light and shadows. thanks again for your very constructive input! ^^ i'll keep everything in mind.

Any time. I can't wait to see you get better; its always nice to see people who accept criticism well, for the last few years I've been surrounded by people who think that me telling them "it isn't as good as it could be" is a personal attack on them.
If you ever decide to get into digital art, that is kinda my domain right now

i actually want to get into digital art! but since i still don't have the money to buy a decent tablet T_T, i'd do traditional to get the fundamentals, then maybe, someday, i could do both.. ^^
thank you soo much again! don't hesitate to give me more advice.. i really appreciate it. ^^
