Description
When drawn, the devil is often portrayed as a mean red man,
or a bull-like figure that stands on two legs,
or black haired red eyed boy.

He has horns and a tail,
A trusting smile;
he's cloaked in darkness, shadows,
or bouts of fire from hell itself.

It's not true.

The devil disguises himself as everything you ever dreamed of.

Then reveals himself as everything you ever feared.

We all experience him at least once through others.

My first time was in first grade, when they called themselves my friends
then the next day, pushed me to the ground and began insults that continued for several years.
They stopped, when they were forced to go to a bigger school.

My second time, he called me his daughter
Then proceeded to yell and scream and threaten to beat me,
or kill me if I said something he disproved of.
He stopped for the most part, when I collected weapons, pinning them to my wall.

I've encountered him many times in between,

My latest time, he called me his friend, and said he wanted to be more.
Then proceeded to tear me down every time I built myself up for the next two years.
He stopped when I discovered he'd cheated on me for the second time,
and he left, calling me out for sending pictures to a stranger, saying it was my fault it'd never work out.

Recently, I've been promised a future of love and care by a new boy who claims to love me.

I hope he's an angel.

Otherwise, the devil's perfected his disguise.
I never know anymore.

But if he is the devil?
He knows I'm onto him.

And if he's an angel?
I pray I don't chase him away with my fear of the unknown.
