Description "I should have known, I should have known," Mike whispering to himself. His hearts raced as he flew down the stairwell. His body rushed by several shadows. They could have been people but they were not on Mike's focus. He stopped at the tool shed just outside the basement door. The wooden frame was old and off center. The one hinge still held it opened.
He starred into the darkness that filled the doorway. The feeling was unnerving. So much made sense that he hated how he found out. His little sister had to tell him. He felt so stupid. Yet at this moment, as he rested against the shed that he was dealing with something far more dangerous then he could hope to deal with.
A weapon, he needed a weapon. With little thought he swung open the tool shed, there at the floor was chain saw. It laid there so innocently and yet it called to him to take it up in arms. He took the yellow engine in his hands. It was heavy.
He hesitated a moment before pulling the string. The motor roared to life. His confidence was strong and now looking at the darkened stairwell of the basement door he saw it was afraid of him. The blackness wanted to flee from him and his new found power.
He gritted his teeth and descended into the shadows. It was several feet deeper then he remembered but the fright on his sisters face put him at ease. It had to be down. The door at the bottom was opened and only a flicker of light shined out.
Mike pushed open the door a little, peering in. The room was just as it was before. The floor was of the same lime green coloring as it always had, the chairs were puffy, and the old wooden tables were still cluttered with papers. Though the only light was the little gas lamp in the far corner. Mike felt his heart beating in his ears. The sweat on his face dripped off almost as quickly as they had formed. Out of the corner of his eye something moved in the shadows, close to the floor.
Mike clicked the switch on the saw and the blade sped off like a bullet train. He shoved open the door, racing to the figure on the floor. This was it, the final moment. The figure groaned and within inches of the of it Mike pushed the running blade over it's fragile body. His motion stopped as he felt an opposing force holding back the blade.
The figure looked at him, the lights went on and there was Professor Sombi, sitting on the floor. His hand held out over the blade. Though blood was running from the open wound on his hand, Professor Sombi had stopped the blade with no effort.
His face was calm and yet focused on Mike's face, "Your sister should really be more careful, Mr. Snow."
Mike push down the button again and tried with all his might to bring it down on the Professor but Sombi held the end with almost no effort.
"Come now," Professor Sombi smiled, "Is this any way to treat a friend?"
Mike let go of the chain saw and back away. Professor Sombi let the engine fall to the floor. The young Professor took hold of the wooden table pulling himself up.
"Another black out eh? That Dr. A is really beg=coming an annoyance. Isn't that right Mr. Snow?"
Mike only nodded, not sure what to do.
Professor Sombi was young, had to be in his early twenties. He had short dark hair and a mustache. He had on a faded purple tie, a clean but worn black vest and a navy blue dress shirt. The sleeves were rolled up and over top was an apron. His brown pants were covered in dirt and coal dust. He took up his glasses off the table and placed them on his face, making his emerald green eyes just a bit darker.
"Would you like some tea Mr. Snow? I just happen to make some just before your sister's intrusion." he took up the pot sitting on the table and pored it into an empty tea cup. "The black out and hitting my head on my equipment didn't help much either."
Mike's throat was dry, "Are you a monster?" Mike couldn't help but ask this question.
The Professor placed his hand on his chin and thought out load, "An excellent question. I guess. Maybe." he nodded, "Yes, I believe that is the appropriate term to call me. Yes I am a monster."
Mike shook all over.
"Though human beings seem to have limited understandings on what a monster is. It's more like they are shifting the blame then anything else."
"But Suzie saw you...with lifeless bodies. You're a murderer."
Sombi laughed, "What? No, quiet the opposite! I give life to the lifeless...or the dead as many people call it."
"B-b-but the raw meat you ate and the howling at night the-" Mike looked over at the chain saw.
Sombi raised an eyebrow, "One at a time young one. Your curiosity has peak and like all humans they have a decision to make. As I see, you took the 'don't understand it, shouldn't exist' way. Not to worry. The raw meat is nothing more then uncooked hamburger patties. Which are quiet a tasty invention as I may say. Also like I said before it is for my condition."
Sombi walked over to Mike and helped him up. "Not to worry there is no hard feedings between us."
