Description A character roster for my idea of a new Super Smash Bros. game, which I call Super Smash Bros. Next, stylized as "Super Smash Bros. NeXt" and codenamed "Super Smash Bros. for Wii Thrii". The character roster screen itself is modeled after the one I used for PlayStation All-Stars Round 2  and Microsoft Legends Battle Zone X, however, there are a few differences to take note of, namely the design of the banner at the top of the screen and the character "portrait cards".

The design of these "cards" are as follows:
1. Player Number: In the top-left corner of the portrait is the player's number, which indicates whether a player is 1P, 2P, COM, etc.
2. Custom Moveset Icon: In the top-right corner is an icon indicating that the character is playing with a custom moveset. This replaces the character rank icon from Round 2 and Microsoft Legends as Smash Bros. Next would only keep track of amiibo leveling up. All three games would have moveset customization, however, Smash Bros is the only one that doesn't have a rank up system, other than the one used for amiibo figures.
3. Character Portrait: At the center of the portrait is, of course, the selected character, with an outline highlighting their render to indicate which player is controlling them...This brings us to the next notable visual...
4. Character-Specific Background: As with Round 2 and Microsoft Legends, this game would actually have different backgrounds for each character. However, keeping true to the Super Smash Bros. series, it would also bear the character's universe symbol that has been popular in every game.
5. Character Name: In the bottom left corner, above a black bar, is the character's name. A staple for any fighting game, obviously it tells you who you're playing as...
6. Ready/Confirm Indicator: Located above the character's name is an indicator that will read as "Confirm" if a player has not selected their fighter and "Ready" once a character has been selected. This replaces the Smash Bros series' banner that displays the "Ready? Press Start" message.
7. Online ID/Player Nickname: In the black bar below the character's name is the player's nickname. As with the previous games, this represents the nickname of the player playing the game, as well as the online ID of the player when playing online. Unlike in previous Smash Bros games, the character limit for nicknames is the same as online ID's from PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, allowing players to use the same nicknames they use online when playing in offline modes. Additionally, since this is a Super Smash Bros game, a small icon to the left of the player's username will appear indicating which controller they are currently using, whether it's a Gamepad, Pro Controller, Gamecube controller, and so-on...

The costume icon present in the PlayStation and Microsoft games is not present in this one. As Super Smash Bros groups characters' alternate colors and costumes together, the icon is not needed, and therefore allows more room for the character names to appear.

Microsoft Legends Battle Zone X: leehatake93.deviantart.com/art…
--------------------
The characters chosen for this match-up are Link from The Legend of Zelda, Zero Suit Samus from Metroid, Red & Charizard from Pokemon, and Phoenix Wright from the Ace Attorney series. Unlike in PlayStation All-Stars Round 2 and Microsoft Legends Battle Zone X, the Nintendo characters do not rank up, as that is reserved for their amiibo counterparts. Instead, they simply have custom moveset icons.
Their descriptions are posted below:

1. Link: Link uses his design from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which would be an alternate costume, as his default would be the same design from Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS. His background is a screenshot from Breath of the Wild with the Triforce as his symbol. His player is playing with the system's Gamepad and their nickname is "Triforce-of-Courage", based on the Triforce that Link bears.
2. Zero Suit Samus: Zero Suit Samus uses the same design she had in Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS. Her background is just a simple image with the ScrewAttack as her symbole. Her player is playing with a Pro Controller and their nickname is "Metroid_Maniac", which references her series "Metroid".
3. Red & Charizard: Red is rendered after his trophy from Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS, which is based on his design from Pokemon FiredRed/LeafGreen used in Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Charizard uses his design from Pokken Tournament. Their background is a map of the Kanto region with a PokeBall as their symbol. Their player is playing with a Gamecube controller and their nickname is "Nuzlocke-Master", which references a fan challenge for playing Pokemon games.
4. Phoenix Wright: Phoenix Wright's default costume is based on his appearance in recent games, namely Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice. His background is the defense bench from the District Courtroom of the Ace Attorney series, and his symbol is the flashing icon that appears in the logo of every Ace Attorney game in the series. His player is also using a Gamecube controller and their nickname is "Turnabout_Smasher", which references how nearly episode in the Phoenix Wright games is called "Turnabout [something]" and the Super Smash Bros series. It also sounds somewhat like "Turnabout Sisters", which was the first time Phoenix met Maya Fey.

Without further ado, I present the full roster. Unlike in All-Stars Round 2 and Microsoft Legends, Super Smash Bros. NeXt actually has 72 characters instead of 71, which I admit are mostly carried over from previous Smash Bros games, with only a handful of newcomers compared to the massive roster increase in All-Stars Round 2.

1. Tabuu as a playable character? AWESOME!!!

2. What? No Shantae or Falco?

Falco would be a variation of Fox. They're considered separate characters, but playable under the same slot, like premier skins in Injustice 2.

Run people over with his bike, smack them in the face with a fishing rod, throw rocks like in the Safari Zone...Red can do a lot more than just stand around and say nothing all day.

Yeah, I have two trainers in the roster: Red and Moon.
Red's alternate costumes would be all of the male trainers, and Moon's would be all of the females

Not including Rayman isn't a bad thing, although I will admit that Chase McCain does seem a bit weird.

I don't think we will see King K. Rool in a next SSB. If he didn't make it now, why should he make it next time? Also if Nintendo doesn't acre about him, why should you?

I wouldn't be surprised it someone out there were actually developing one like this.
Who knows? Maybe someone has plans for a Crusade 2 or Super Smash Flash 3?

How many people really wanted Ryu?

LeeHatake93 In reply to TalonArtsdA [2016-10-05 00:29:27 +0000 UTC]

That's a fair argument. Just like Cloud, I wanted Ryu in PlayStation All-Stars, and considering Street Fighter V is console exclusive to PS4, it's surprising he even made it to Smash

Bengtzone [2016-10-03 16:06:45 +0000 UTC]

Unless they decided to combine Adaptational Badass with Composite Character for the sake of giving him a fighter-themed portrayal, I doubt that anyone would have been interested in seeing Phoenix Wright participate in the SSB franchise.
That includes incorporating the fighting skills of Dick Gumshoe as well as Athena's self-defense training.

LeeHatake93 In reply to Bengtzone [2016-10-03 18:07:35 +0000 UTC]

He worked really well in Marvel vs Capcom.
Adapting that to Smash's gameplay style would work.

I'm surprised I was actually able to dish out three 70+ character rosters so soon after each other. The real challenge was the Xbox fighting game because I built that roster from scratch. I had notes for PlayStation and Nintendo floating around the interwebs, so they were really easy to build rosters for.
I'm going to tackle a Jump Ultimate Stars/J-Stars sequel roster next.

I had a feeling Jump was going to be next X3
