Description
First in my new Series of Ships of the Fleet. The Banshee Light Cruiser, smallest of the Robotech Defense Force ships in Earth orbit, is the workhorse of the Southern Cross. Underpowered against the Robotech Masters, the Banshee serves as picket and light carrier with it's compliment of 12-24 mecha.Original Sketch inked and colored in PS CS4,

Hello:
I remember this pic was one of my inspirations to start making my Southern Cross 3d models. I hope you'll be able to do more ships because they look great .
Keep it up!

Very cool render of the often-forgotten/underappreciated SC ships! I really do hope that you have time to come back to this Ships of the Fleet series...

These things were so outmatched but kept coming at the Masters nonstop.

Hoping you start up your Ships of the Fleet series again. I appreciated the 'revealed' feature of the main bay door, which isn't usually seen on other images of the Banshee.

It's no problem. You worked hard on this, and so you've earned it in my humble opinion.

This pic is an unsung gem. It's so hard to make out how the Southern Cross ships look in the anime. I'd love to see a Tristar and a Tokugawa from you.

Good job. Your ship is one of the best manga ships that I have seen.

I like this ship because you've designed as it would look from the original series in the eights. I like the echos you used from other shows. Crusher Joe comes to mind, in the way the front of the cruiser looks. Well done.

Hi, yes I want to be as true to the source material as possible, and yet inject some realism and practicality to the design that isn't communicated in the original series. Thanks for the support and interest!

Nice, did you have references other than the series episodes? It's strange that they would mask the forward field of fire of their turrets. The forward doors are for heavy missiles? I seem to recall some of their ships having batteries of vertical launch tubes. The bow sure looks like it's meant for ramming.

Nope...all reference was from the original series. You'd be amazed at how many different ways this ship was represented in the origianl animation. No Lineart existst that I am aware of. Part of my motivation to make sense of the vessel. I agree that the forward arc of the dorsal batteries is obstructed. Depending on the screenshot the elevation and arc varies. I may revisit this in the future, but I just got the point where I needed to finish it, if only for a little while!

That's pretty ambitious, how many different classes did you notice?

no. I think they are widely accepted Fan Names, since the original series didn't have a name for them.

That makes sense. I seem to recall them just calling them by number like Cruiser 7.

Very nice.
I think this capture is about as close as the series production got to line art for it:
