Nice capture, I think though that if you were to crop out some of the left side of the shot, where it is busy with the picnic table leg it would have even more of an impact. Of coarse this is just my opinion. Nice portrait.

I would recommend to photograph with your face towards the sunlight next time, and taking down the exposure slightly. Right now, it's kind of underexposed on one side, and overexposed on the other.

Haha to be honest, I doubt I'm more technically aware than you are ^^ I just try to position the camera so it won't take in as much light - I know on manual cameras you can change how much light a camera takes in but I'm not sure on a digital

Good expression, I think the lighting on the left side could be made a bit darker to contrast or a bit brighter to match the rest of the shot.
