Description
If anyone is confused, I'm skipping 14 for now as I made a mistake with one of the creatures and I need to replace it (I tried drawing Ghost Train . I apparently cant draw trains. Especially not decrepit undead hybrid trains as tall as a two story building. Which is a problem because he's a major character in Tier 3 Lucid). Originally I was having trouble deciding on what to put in the space as nothing quite fit, but now that stair gremlins exist I think I found the perfect contender. In the meantime here's the fifteenth [non remade] entry.1: [Lucid] The Deaddeer, a horrifying and twisted creature of ROT that is common towards the latter half of Lucid. Creatures of ROT (or ROTimals) are twisted animals infected with ROT, which in the most advanced states resemble a cross between a mutant, a zombie, and something that just jumped through a glass window. Deaddeer themselves are infected white tailed deer, the smallest of the ROT infected cervids (although are still the size of a large horse) and the most common of the group. Males have large, warty antlers and are larger and more common than females. Both sexes are a major threat to the player, as a combination of their hazardous bodies and aggressive natures make them extremely difficult to combat. Physical contact both causes extreme damage to the player and has a chance to infect with ROT. Even worse they seem unable to truly die, still capable of attacking even after extreme damage to their own bodies and continuing to get back up after they are downed. Players are recommended to flee as quickly as possible when they are encountered, only attacking to keep them at bay (preferably with ranged attacks).
2: [Pterrafroming + Lucid] A Sharkatfish, a small catfish species resembling a miniature shark native to North America. Sharkatfish are mollusk and crustaceans eaters, specializing in crushing the hard bodies with blunt jaws and locating them with extremely sensitive barbells. Sharkatfish are found in fast moving bodies of water, their bodies streamlined and powerful in order to more effectively traverse these waters. They require much more oxygen than their relatives, so are usually not found in the same habitats as them. However, if absolutely necessary, they can leave the water for short times in search of new waterways. This usually happens if they become stranded in a drying stream or creek, however this is a dangerous undertaking as they can often get lost and suffocate or get eaten by predators. In the end, enough survive the endeavor that this ability has been continued to be passed down through the generations.
3: [Pterrafroming + Lucid] Hydra false jellyfish, a hydra relative that has convergent evolved to resemble a tiny jellyfish. No bigger than a pin head, these tiny hydras drift through fresh water in search of minute food to sift out of the water. Hydras posses stinging nematocysts that they use to immobilize prey, however these stings are almost unnoticeable to humans and H. improbabilis and are not medically significant. Like jellyfish false hydras are free floating bodies, however unlike jellies they spend their entire life cycle adrift, skipping the polyp stage entirely. They reproduce by budding, forming tiny warts that eventually break off as miniature adults. False jellies are found in slow moving fresh water such as lakes and ponds, and can become pests in aquariums if they are not kept properly cleaned.
4: [Pterraforming + Wings] Hominopteranus improbabilis, the dominant sophont of Pterrearth and the star of the Pterraforming project. They are an arboreal species that originated in the redwood forests of North America, and as a species are about two million years older than humans. they developed their culture and technology at a much slower and more sustainable pace than humans, adapting to their environments rather than making their environment adapt to them. They are also highly gregarious, sharing resources much more openly with each other and not having large established territories. Because of this, they lack many of the tribalistic tenancies of humans, and have been much gentler on their planet as a result. Like all pterasimians, H. improbabilis are viviparous, wing walking bipedals with highly derived leg-arms and feet-hands that are completely separate from the wing membrane. They spend most of their time off the ground, being much more at home clambering and brachiating through trees and flying high with slotted wings. They are currently pre space faring, although they are getting very close. Their medical technology and knowledge is extremely advanced, however they are far behind humans in terms of weaponry or warfare, making them vulnerable to more aggressive species should they ever find themselves in the world of Pterrearth.
5: [Pterraforming] A Domestic Canada goose, a bird often kept both for eggs and for meat by Hominopteranus improbabilis. Having originated in North America, Canada geese were one of the first bird species to be domesticated by H. improbabilis, along with birds such as passenger pigeons, giant mountain ravens, turkeys, and redwood parakeets. Like domesticated greylag and swan geese, domestic Canada geese stand more upright than their wild counterparts, and have broader breasts and thicker bodies. There are many different breeds of domestic Canada geese, some bred for meat and eggs, some for different colors or shapes, some even form their musical honks. Many breeds still retain the ability to fly, as H. improbabilis is an arboreal species, and having flightless birds can be problematic. Domestic Canada geese make excellent guard birds, and are often kept to help protect domestic flocks. Some have even been bred to be even larger and more aggressive, acting as guard dogs for H. improbabilis.
6: [Lucid] The pocket dimension dwelling librarian keeper eagle, a strange entity that keeps vast collections of books and scrolls kept within their very own pocket dimension. Keeper eagles are usually ornately dressed and extremely tall, resembling totem poles from a distance. Most of the books they keep were written by themselves, using them as a log of the vast amount of knowledge they acquire over their lives. Their dimensions also seem to be home to a unique kind of plum, which grows as a vine throughout the library. Many keeper eagles are thousands of years old, as they seem to be immortal. While they dwell in their pocket dimensions alone, they sometimes will gather to trade books and knowledge with each other. In Lucid, keeper eagles are met in mid to late Lucid, which can be found in their dimensions should the player accidentally stumble into it. They can help the player in various ways, such as helping them find certain objects, entities or places, and can help the player learn more about the mysterious Tunnel of Terror, albeit a bit reluctantly.
7: [Lucid] Another creature of ROT, the robbit. Like other creatures of ROT, advanced stage robbits appear like twisted, gnarled versions of their uninfected counterparts, covered head to toe in quills, spines, bone spurs and shards, thorns, keratin spikes, and overgrown flaking teeth, all of which are coated in a putrid bloom and dried fluid that very much resembles decomposition juices. Robbits tend to be less aggressive than other creatures of ROT, instead hiding under bushes and in grass with only their red, glowing eyes showing. Only when a player approaches them do they attack. The bodies of creatures of ROT are extremely dangerous to touch, as every part of their coating splinters and flakes, the barbed ends readily piercing skin and infecting whatever they pierce with ROT. Despite their size, robbits are just as dangerous as any other creature of ROT, able to run at jump at great speeds and ripping and tearing with every sharp part of their bodies. Players should take care to keep track of them, avoiding them as much as possible and only attacking when absolutely nessisary.
8: [Fakemon] The wolf pup fakemon Lupup, a dual dark/fairy type and the basic form of the pseudo-legendary Lycurpus. The Lycurpus line is strongly tied to the moon, their powers waxing and waning with its phases. Lupup live in packs with their evolutions, being guarded fiercely by their parents. They can often be seen playing with other Lupups in the pack, both honing their skills for hunting and bonding with their fellow packmates. They also often practice their howling, which is an extremely important form of communication for them. Due to their powers being tied to the moon, Lycurpus line members are most active when the waxing moon, being especially active when it is full. It is during a full moon that most Lupups evolve into Lunicane, and this time is considered sacred by the pack. Their ties with the moon and shyness of humans have led to many superstitions surrounding, one such legend stating that those who are bitten by a Lupup or its evolutions are doomed forever to turn into one every full moon. This of course is nonsense, but this rumor led to the near extinction of the species at one point.
9: [Wings] The nocturnal bigear blind batdarchid, a completely blind species of far future bat descendant. In this evolutionary lineage, bats took on many of the the same evolutionary traits of pterodactyloids, such as elongated heads (many beaked and toothless), quadrupedality, more mobile wing membranes, and longer necks. Indeed, many modern day bats share many parallels with the non-pterodactyloids, so a convergent transition into a bat-pterodactyloid isn't too far-fetched. In the bigear's case, the ears and nose were hypertrophied to the extreme, completely taking over for their now useless eyes. They are completely nocturnal, essentially filling the same niche as the mighty azhdarchids of old. Their beaks are not formed from teeth, but rather keratinized gums, and while they still have facial muscles they are atrophied, and mostly confined to the base of the bill, mostly used to adjust the nose and ears.
(admittedly the ears and nose are a bit too over the top in my opinion and probably too similar to the leaf-nosed bat, but I was trying to make a more realistic nightstalker and wanted to give them equipment that could handle sound only hunting)
10: [Pterraforming+Lucid] The diminutive eyed peeper, a very tiny little tree frog native to the swamps and forests of the great lakes basins. When full grown, these tiny frogs are small enough to fit onto a dime. Eyed peepers are rarer than their more familiar cousins, their small size making them easy to overlook. When spotted, however, they are quite striking; on their hind quarters are two large, bright yellow eyespots that are slightly reflective, which help to deter predators. In the spring, swarms of peepers congregate together in swamps and vernal pools left over from the spring thaw, a loud chorus of peeps and chirps echoing throughout the night. Eyed peepers have a squeaky pee-yeep! pee-yeep! call, which sounds similar to their cousin the spring peeper but at a higher pitch and two noted.
11: [Uhhh...] I um... I have no idea... It came from a dream museum from a early Triassic fossil display, I think it was supposed to be some kind of early diapsid or weird synapsid. The bones in the upper palate formed this flexible, finger like three-pronged grabber, while the lower jaw split in two to form two more grabbers, creating this net basket thing much like a vampire squid... or at least that's what the scientists inferred, as there were no soft-tissue impressions in the fossil. I might redesign it to be a bit more sprawl-limbed, as it was supposed to be a very early tetrapod
12: [Pterraforming + Lucid] Marbled freshwater moray, a species of moray that has moved into the fresh waterways of North and South America. The vast majority of moray eels are marine only species, so the presence of a freshwater species is unusual. However, its transition has meant the complete removal of competition from related species, giving them full reign of their environment. They live in both fast flowing and slow moving waters such as rivers and lakes, hiding in crevasses waiting for food. They are especially fond of beaver ponds, as the flooded environments provide plenty of stumps and logs to hide under. Like all morays they posses a highly derives set of pharyngeal jaws, which they use skillfully to pull food down their gullets even in their tight hides. This also allows them to inflict a nasty bite if provoked.
