Description There was a full Earth in the jet black sky.  I asked my sister to pass me some carrots. With a quick nod, my sister, Mary, grabbed a container of carrots and passed it to effortlessly. Most people aren’t very good at adjusting to the new gravity on the moon, but Mary makes it look so easy; She is a fast learner, and she has already gotten used to the new gravity, and she even made a moon walk yesterday with some other people from our colony.
We where interrupted by a large hissing noise occurred, fallowed by a series of mechanical clicks. The airlock slid open and my dad walked in.
“Hey John, hey Mary” he said.
“Oh, hi dad” Mary and I responded as we went on with our business.
“So how did the gravity training go?” I asked him
“It went fine.” he said as he walked over to the brief room and unsuited.
He had just gotten back from the centrifuge, he (and half of Artemis-9) were having some problems because of the long term exposure to low gravity. Some people don’t get it, others do, and he has it. He had to go to a centrifuge daily for ‘Gravity Training’.
We have been in Artemis-9 for over 4 years now, ever since the war on earth started. The colony I live in, Artemis-9, is the smallest colony that lives in the Vallis Capella. Ever since the food shipments from Earth stopped coming, we have had to rely on the farms. What little food we had left that wasn’t renewable we had to save and use for special occasions. We have had to make more and more food trips to Artemis-5 lately. Artemis-5 is a bigger colony, and they actually make money because they drill ore.
The civil war on Earth is bad, really bad. Sometimes, when the war first started, we could see the nuclear explosions from here. The civil war on Earth turned into WW111  after England and China got involved. They formed the Pax Economica. The Pax Economica is a powerful force to be reckoned with. I know that someday the Pax Economica will find out that the Union launched Lunar Colonies, and maybe they will come to eliminate us, but not anytime soon… hopefully.
“I’m going to bed now dad, its already 11:00.” I said.
“Okay, I’m going to wait for your mother.” He responded
“Have a good sleep.” Mary said, without looking up, she was to busy with her simulator. Nobody says ‘good night’ anymore, on the Moon one day is one month long. That makes sleeping difficult for the ‘Earthbornes’, which is slang for people that have where born and raised on Earth. The people born to the Moon are different, like an entirely different species. They are pale, skinny, tall, and not as muscular as some earthbornes. It is very rare to see someone born on the Moon that can walk. Most Moonbornes have adopted a sort of skip, and say walking is in-superior on the moon.
I sighed as I laid in my plastic bed. As I fell asleep I wondered if I would ever reach Earth again.

“WAKE UP!” my Dad said, as he rushed in to my room and turned on the lights, he had a bag and was throwing in some objects, I didn’t see what because he was facing the wall. “We have to go! NOW!” He said forcefully.
“What happened?” I muttered weakly, still not fully awake “Am I late for school?”
“No time now, I’ll tell you in the transport ship!” He said
“Transport ship!” I yelped, my voice cracking, now he had my attention.
“Yes, get suited now, take what you can carry.” He said as he left the room in a hurry.
Just then I realized that we were going to leave. I jumped of the bed and hobbled over to the brief room. As I walked in to the small, white room lined with closets, I took a short glance out the window. In awe I stared at the blazing battle taking place overhead. At-least two fleets of Pax Economica planetary siege cruisers were engaging in battle with the Union’s lunar defensive forces. The sky was Illuminated as volleys of mag-cannon rounds flew back and forth between the two groups of ships.  Small scramjet fighters weaved through the sky at amazing speed as they continued to dogfight each other. I could see some portable rail-guns on the edge of the Vallis Capella. I regained my attention and started to suit up. As I walked into the living room I saw my sister, Mary. She was crying, and before I had time to ask why, my dad came running from his room with a bag of food.
“Come on! We have to make the next shuttle!” He yelled as he opened the airlock, his voice muffled from his helmet. We walked into the airlock and swiftly checked both of our helmets.
“What is going on dad?” Mary said, crying, as dad did one last check on her suit.
“The Pax is here honey, your mother made the last jump leaving Artemis-5. She’s okay” He said swiftly.
“Will we see her again?” I said.
“I don’t know” He replied. Dad was a grown man, and he tried not to cry, but he was holding back tears.
As we stepped outside I saw a streak of white above my head, no more than 50 meters up. I spun around in terror as a scramjet blew one of our farm buildings to ruble with a single tungsten round from a rail-gun. It exploded in a fireless cloud of white dust and oxygen.
“DUCK!” Yelled my dad through the radio. I fell to the ground and covered my helmet. I heard the whistle of shrapnel above my head. “Lets go!” ordered my dad as he hobbled to the buggy. We hopped in and started the fuel cell. As the car zipped along I saw the scramjet make a sharp U-turn in the sky right above us. As we drove away I saw the scramjet fighter fire a round and destroy my home. My father, mary and I sadly drove over the horizon toward the shuttle.
As we neared the shuttle dock I saw the ruin of a huge Pax planetary siege cruiser that crashed about 2 kilometers away around the Mons Hadley Delta.  We parked the car just as people were starting to pile into the huge transport. It wasn't until I walked inside that I realized how enormous the ship really was.
With a huge roar, the ships engines fired up and lifted off the landing pad, hovering about five feet above the surface. I rushed over to my seat and strapped myself in. The ship hovered over the pad for a couple seconds and a flight attendant began to check our seats quickly. About a minute later a loud mechanical buzz filled the room. Over the intercom I could hear the pilots say we where going to make a jump over to Earth. I couldn't believe it! I was going back to Earth!
“Excuse me honey.” An old, smiling flight attendant said kindly as she checked my seat and buckle. “Have you ever made a jump before?” she asked.
“No.” I replied nervously.
“Are you jumpsick?” She asked.
“I don’t know.” I answered
“Okay well for a second you are going to feel very sick, like you are being stretched out, but once the jump drive stops you will go back to normal. We call this jumpsickness.” She said. “Your also going to have to put on your helmet.”
She walked away. The buzz was beginning to get loud. Over the buzz I started to hear a roar, it sounded familiar.
“CODE RED! CODE RED! BAIL!” Yelled the captain of the cruiser over the intercom. Suddenly the ship dropped out of the air fell to the ground with a jaw-shuttering thud. I realized what the roar was, scramjet bombers.
Suddenly the side of the ship blew up and a tremendous  sucking force pulled me towards the huge gash in the ships hull. My seatbelt kept me in my seat. a second later the emergency alarm went of and people began to flee from the ship and the emergency exits.
Outside of the ship my dad was waiting with my sister. Some Union Rangers have already shown up and set up a rail gun. I walked out as the last couple of bombers where shot down and started running towards my father.
“Dad! Mary!” I yelled.
“John! Come on, we have to go!” He said stressfully. The Union Ranger next to us carried an M-16 A4 rifle with a small oxygen tank attached to the clip so it could ignite bullets in an environment with no oxygen. He had large plusses all over his space suit.
The the soft dusty ground beneath our feet began to rumble. Over the horizon of the Mons Hadley Delta a huge Pax Economica siege cruiser appeared and descended to above our position. The rail gun fire did nothing to the huge ship looming over the sky. Pax marines poured out of the large cruiser. Bullet fire whizzed everywhere. I fell to the ground. I was hit.
My Tank was losing air fast and everything was whirling! My head hurt, I wondered what was going on.
“Help!” I yelled weakly, I was feeling really fatigued. I wanted to sleep but I couldn't. I snapped back to attention as a medic was standing over me. Bullets where still flying around.
“He’s losing air fast! Get me the bio-foam!” he yelled. “His oxygen is dangerously low! He’s going crazy! We’re going to lose him!”
I laughed insanely. What a funny space-man. I asked my self why his head was spinning, why is the room spinning?
“It’s too late” He said sadly, swore an then rushed to the next wounded man. As I lay wasting away in the soft lunar dust I looked up and realized, there was a full Earth in the jet-black sky.

Very good. Nicely written Love some of the concepts and descriptions you included. The ending is also very effective

It'd be interesting to see a series of these, maybe from different perspectives. You've definately got a KNACK for this.
