Description
The Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST) are an elite group of UNSC Marines that specialize in special warfare tactics. The ODSTs are one of the primary Special Operations units of the United Nations Space Command, and is under the command of UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command.This is a self portrait of myself put into the conflict at Uplift Reserve during the Battle of New Mombasa in the struggle for Earth's survival, 2552.
I painted this in Photoshop in about 10 hours time or so. I'm a huge fan of the game, and so I thought I should try my hand at it. I wanted to keep it rough, while devoting time to the little details that made the ODST unique. I originally did not opt for a background, but I added this one. I wanted to keep it rough as to not distract from the soldier, as that's the focus.

ODST Was an AMAZING game. I felt that it was definitely overlooked. The story was well written, and the character's, and the dialog were very impacting. It wasn't all about the hero's journey, and gave us something deeper, and provided more attention to detail.
Also it really made you strategize, and think, as you were not a spartan, and were somewhat weaker in that retrospect. It was an aspect I liked, because fear is an element missing from allot of games these days, that makes a good game, great!

It's one of the reasons that I enjoyed it as a story within the Halo universe that took some of the older principles and redesigned them to fit the story of the ODST guys. That, and I feel like they're easier to relate to than super soldier Spartans running around blowing up dudes like it's no big deal.

Yeah! They definitely are! I can relate to them definitely allot better. They are the underdogs, and even though it's a sci-fi war, it's nice to know that there is a more realistic sense to the story, and everyone is not a walking death machine. lol

That is amazing! I really love the ODST armor, especially the helmet. Halo's a pretty fun game. Your coloring looks so realistic and the lighting/shading is good. Your choice of background is good, fits theme. This may be an older piece but you should still be proud with how this turned out. This is really good.

I need to update it eventually and put on a good military haircut. But it was pretty fun making it. I started a second one for my brother, but never got around to it. I guess this was two or three years ago now. Anyway, the full size is ripe for a poster.

Air Force gets cooler uniforms, but often more lame jobs. Lots of standing watch in places that don't matter. Then again, lots of rotations in the states. What job you looking into?

i also want to be in the navy. those two branches have been neck and neck for the past several years. but, i think if i had to chose one to go into tomorrow, it'd probably be the air force.

Ah, well, that is kind of a long term job field. You'll need a doctorate and certification and years of experience for that. If you go enlisted, you'll never get into any roles like that. You might be a medical clerk or something, but that's it. In the Navy, all of our medical needs go through Corpsmen who like to stab people with needles and give me crazy diagnoses. On the officer side, we have actual doctors though. I would look at the jobs you want, then find out what is available, then see if you qualify. If you don't, find a new job or try a different branch. The military is scaling back so getting what you want is kind of a pain.
Not sure who you've been talking to about it, but if you have ANY questions on the military life, or specifically the Navy and how that works, feel free. I like to help people not make mistakes and chose the best options for them.

Wow, never knew you could paint. This looks great, like real concept art for a game. The portrait really does look like you too, although maybe a tad chubbier than I remember. I can't believe you did this in 10 hours with all the detail and crap. Good job!

I really can't paint. The last time I tried was 2003. It was a good learning experience. I'm painting a new ODST for my brother, so we can be in the painting together -- I've learned a lot, so his will be much better.
I am a tad chubbier I think. I'm like 200 lbs these days!

Well, she really can't play games like that (though she likes them) with two little kids watching. We play games like Burnout Paradise, Fable II, Guitar Hero and the like.

Burnout Paradise is a racing game that has a huge open world you can just drive around in without doing races or events, and Fable II is a huge open world RPG where you wander and do quests with a partner.
