This reminds me to look up what mechanical reverbs based on metal coils--at least the ones professionally manufactured--looked like inside. Ages ago, I actually built a stereo mechanical reverb using 2 halves of a cut-in-half Slinky, two earphone coils to drive it, 2 cassette heads as pickups, and 4 very heavy anchoring bolts to more efficiently reflect the higher frequencies at both ends of the coils. Wish I'd kept it as a memento when the digital ones came within reach of a hobbyist's budget. But now even the Alesis Midiverb III sits unused on a shelf, since all things digital have improved at such breakneck speed.
The thing actually worked, though you couldn't touch it without initiating thunderous echoes.

Yeah, old time Reverb, simple cheap and effective, throw in a simple Phase shifting and Delay Opamp ciruits and Play like the Big Boys for $20.

The hardware's come a long way today. Used to be you needed a pedal for every effect. Got a couple of boxes now that if the effect you want aint in there, then it hasn't been invented yet.

Yeah, I'm a retired Engineering Tech and been into Music equip forever, both performance and recording. My son has been playing Guitar for like 18 years now, since he was 14. Needless to say I'm always upgrading his setup endlessly.
