Le château de Burgdorf se trouve dans la commune de Berthoud dans le canton de Berne en Suisse. Il est l’un des rares châteaux à avoir conservé des éléments importants de ses constructions d’origine. A la fin du XIIème siècle les ducs de Zähringen fondent la ville de Berthoud (Burgdorf) et font bâtir sur la crête rocheuse de grès un château résidentiel à la place d’une forteresse médiévale qui appartenait aux comtes de Rheinfelden. Après la disparition de la dynastie de Zähringen de 1218 à 1383 c’est les comtes de Kyburg qui hérite du château, ils agrandissent l’enceinte du château et de la ville. En 1383 la ville de Berne rachète le comté de Berthoud et installe un bailli au château. Les Bernois transforment et agrandissent légèrement le château mais cependant le style du monument reste inchangé depuis 1200 jusqu’à maintenant ce qui en fait l’un des châteaux forts des Zähringen les mieux préservé. De 1804 à 2012 le canton de Berne utilise le château comme siège administratif. Au cours d’un XXème siècle le château abrite la préfecture, du tribunal et de la prison régionale. Et depuis 1886 un musée est installé dans le monument. De nos jours, en plus du musée il y a au château, un restaurant, une auberge de jeunesse et une salle de mariage.

Schloss Burgdorf liegt in der Gemeinde Burgdorf im Kanton Bern in der Schweiz. Es ist eine der wenigen Burgen, die wichtige Elemente ihrer ursprünglichen Gebäude erhalten hat. Ende des 12. Jahrhunderts gründeten die Herzöge von Zähringen die Stadt Burgdorf und errichteten auf dem felsigen Sandsteinkamm anstelle einer mittelalterlichen Burg der Grafen von Rheinfelden eine Residenzburg. Nach dem Verschwinden der Zähringer von 1218 bis 1383 erbten die Grafen von Kyburg die Burg, sie vergrößerten die Burg- und Stadtmauern. 1383 kaufte die Stadt Bern die Grafschaft Burgdorf und richtete einen Vogt auf der Burg ein. Die Berner veränderten und vergrößerten die Burg leicht, aber der Baustil des Denkmals blieb von 1200 bis heute unverändert, was sie zu einer der am besten erhaltenen Zähringer Festungen macht. Von 1804 bis 2012 nutzte der Kanton Bern das Schloss als Verwaltungssitz. Im Laufe des 20. Jahrhunderts beherbergte das Schloss die Präfektur, das Gericht und das Gefängnis der Region. Und seit 1886 ist im Denkmal ein Museum eingerichtet. Heutzutage gibt es neben dem Museum auf der Burg ein Restaurant, eine Jugendherberge und einen Hochzeitssaal.

Burgdorf Castle is located in the municipality of Burgdorf in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It's one of the few castles to have preserved important elements of its original buildings. At the end of the 12th century the Dukes of Zähringen founded the town of Burgdorf and built a residential castle on the rocky sandstone ridge in place of a medieval fortress which belonged to the Counts of Rheinfelden. After the disappearance of the Zähringen dynasty from 1218 to 1383 it was the counts of Kyburg who inherited the castle, they enlarged the walls of the castle and the city. In 1383 the city of Bern bought the county of Berthoud and installed a bailiff at the castle. The Bernese changed and enlarged the castle slightly, but the style of the monument remained unchanged from 1200 until now, making it one of the best-preserved Zähringen fortresses. From 1804 to 2012 the canton of Bern used the castle as its administrative seat. Over the course of the 20th century, the castle housed the regional prefecture, court and prison. And since 1886 a museum has been installed in the monument. Nowadays, in addition to the museum there is at the castle, a restaurant, a youth hostel and a wedding hall.
