Hello, any advice for coming up with ideas for pixels like these? I can never come up with original poses or backgrounds.

Howdy! It's pretty hard to think off the top of my head, but just be sure to plan out a bunch before getting into the detail- and don't be afraid to change parts even once you've started it.

A ton of young pixel artists seem to go straight for sticking with blinking-adoptables/avatar sprites or similar for quick online profit. As long as you try not to get caught in that cycle and you remember the basics of character design and animation- such as making strong character silhouettes, and animating good shapes via techniques such as stretching and squashing- you'll progress brilliantly ^^ I still gotta get there myself!

Ahh, thank you a lot for the advice.

Yeah the whole adoptables/avatar thing is pretty big here on deviantArt. I'd like to try to do things other than that (perhaps make some mock up fighting sprites) but I always have issues doing pixels of humans with decent anatomy. I'll try to keep what you said in mind for when I get the motivation to work on pixels more.

Yeah! They've gone from a Sonic OC Fan Project to a true strong indie IP! ^^ It's cool to see the progression of their designs

Yep, it was made first as a fan-game, but they saw that they could actually make it into their own IP. It's a similar case as my character's design as Damon was one a motabian from Universe, but the character grew away from the universe into his own character as his nose and ear design changed into more of a humanoid.
