Could be easily written off as a halucination brought on by an altered mind from pain and lack of oxygen. But I do suspect in such situations there is a much more personal aspect of finding peace with oneself by talking to their `ghosts.`
This comic of yours has stirred some deep feelings within myself. I must compliment you on that, there hasn`t been much that I have come across that really resonates within myself.

Actually, my Shep lost her eye at 16, she took two of a Batarian, after he took one of hers. She normally wears an eye patch, but she lost it while fighting to the Crucible.
I was thinking on normal people and Synthetics, the green glow of Synthesis will grow more bright with intensity of emotion. Due to Shep being the key to the Synthesis, her Renegade scars and eye always glow green.
Yes, I over think this.
