Description
This was a mad and fun story to do. I conceived it as something for Simon Bisley, but in the end he couldn't do it. Then I met Playboy model Tiffany Taylor in San Diego and thought her detached beauty would sit perfectly with the lead enigmatic character, and this inspired me to take on the whole job once she agreed to let me use her as the model. It's an anti-war sci-fable based on the legend of Acrasia, the enchantress who turned her lovers into monsters. The gung-ho gun-toting by General Todger is meant to be crass and funny.
(I just wish I hadn't repeated the word "the" in the title... Gah!)
Enjoy!
Liam.

Loving the ship designs, truly epic. God knows what's going on with that typography though - it shouts home made birthday card.

LOL! Bit harsh! :-D
I never did claim to be a letterer though, OR a designer for that matter...
Hey, I was dead pleased with it at the time, but that was before I met the great Tom Muller who has changed everything about my design aesthetic!
Best,
Liam

It's only because I have a passion for typography as I'm sure you know from some of my own work. ;op
I'm used to reading Event Horizon recently - you've spoilt me. I think that is a beautifully designed TPB, some fantastic contemporary graphic design elements in there such as the layouts inside and the cover. I love all that funky line work and subtle, clean shapes that holds all the informative text together. Was Tom involved on this, or just gave you pointers - appologies for not looking at the credits?

Cheers for the compliment. Who was involved designing Event Horizon? It has great context in terms of design and is clearly informed not just by the subject matter but what works graphically today.

No worries man, you're bang on - I'd never do it like this now. But then Heavy Metal is quite a cheesy mag in many ways, and this was an OTT cheesy tale! I was trying to reflect the early 80's period...
No Tom Muller involved on this one. It was before I knew him.
Your own work leaves this flailing in its wake!
Take care,
Liam.
