Parker Lloyd was a twenty-two year old college student living in his own apartment for the first time since he started college. He always hated the dorms in the college and he’d never had a decent roommate through the years. He wasn’t worried about his new roommate though.
Parker had known Shepherd Smyth since grade school. They lost contact after middle school and since then Parker had hardly been wondering how he was doing.
He was headed to the library to see if they had any new books on missing person cases. He found almost all of them fascinating. He arrived at the library after a fifteen minute walk through town. He liked being outside especially on a weekend when the weather was beautiful and people were all milling about, trying to get to shops before it was too crowded.
“Excuse me, ma’am,” Parker gave the librarian a smile. “Do you have anything new for me today?”
“Mr. Lloyd we have only what was here yesterday. There’s one book that somebody brought back but a young lady in the back is reading it. Lovely young lady. She brings me tea on Sundays,” the librarian pursed her lips after she spoke.
“Sorry, Mrs. M. No outside food and drink aloud in the library.” This was something Parker had to be told many times. On slow afternoons, he could sneak in a coke and some chips and once he had even managed to sneak in a pizza and a two liter in his large backpack. He would stay in the library for hours and since he would get hungry and not want to eat, he found it best to just bring a meal with him.
