Description
Based on the movie version of Ghost Rider. It's very much a movie so bad it's good and of course Nicholas Cage is in it, so it gets a recommendation from me.I think it's pretty clear why Blackheart wants to overthrow his dad (The Devil). Just watch the scene in the park between Mephisto and Blackie.

Daddy issues are fairly common in comics, though.
It seems writers love to explain character-behaviour with a bad childhood...

They do 'cause it's easy to work with. I'm a writer myself, and know that tragedies such as losing/loathing a parent is an easy drive to give your protagonist or antagonist, no matter if the book is a superhero comic theme or just a regular adventure or mystery novel. Whoa, since when was I poetic? Anyway, you're very right.

I suspect one other reason is that a lot of superhero-stuff is (or originally was) aimed at kids or teenagers, who would be going through difficult time with their parents. And adults would remember that too, since most of us have had parents, and could identify.
It's such an easy route to take, though. At least when it's done badly and as a sole justification for their actions.
Or if the history of an established character is rewritten to include a troubled childhood. (Like with Riddler and Scarecrow from Batman).

I watched it once, but I don't remember much, since I didn't like it that much.

It's just so cheesy it's fun. If you like that sort of thing. I get the feeling the people making it weren't all that serious. And Cage is one of my favourite actors.
And Blackheart(Or as he shall be known by me, Blackie) is just so cute.
I have a soft spot for characters that try to be cool so much they turn out lame.
