Description I like this... much, much better.

Yesterday (or was it the day before?) I created a really bad manip. It had great thought behind it, but artistically, it sucked. I scrapped it but kept the PSD.

Today I opened it back up and continued it. I changed my style in this a LOT... for those of you who've looked at my other work. First off, I added shadow and played a lot with dodge, burn, and highlighting tools.

Second, there's not a single texture in the entire thing. Every bit of this is color adjustment.

Oh, and I flipped it. I think it brings it into focus more this way, for some reason.

Nicely done, I like the concept and the low saturation adds to it I think. Nice atmosphere you've created. thankyou for the notice!

I like this one loads more than the first. And I agree, flipping the image worked wonders. Great job!

much better, although the boy seems to have a bit of a washed-out look that makes him seem to stick out and not fit

I think it's mostly because he's wearing such dark colors, while the girl has on tan and red, so the colors aren't as dull.

Trust me, when I tried to brighten him up, he stuck out more, and ... well, any other stock image would break the point of this manip.

Thanks

Oooh, I like this! The stairs are so cute! *random*
The shadows are really, really well done.

*blushes* Thank you! It took a lot to get the background pic un-grainy. I mean, the picture itself isn't grainy, but the stones were too rough in comparison.

And ah, the back story. :/

WOW, how'd you get such realistic shadows?

Duplicated the girl layer (easier said than done because I don't erase, I use masks).

Adjust HSL > Take the "lightness" bar all the way to black. This leaves a black silhouette.

Gaussian blur. I'd say about six or seven? I can't remember.

Lower opacity. I may have set that layer to multiply.

Edit > Transform > Distort...and just distorted it around until it looked like a shadow.

For the boy? Rinse and repeat.
