I've never done a tutorial before - and I hardly ever even post crafts that I do - but I figured that this one might interest people!
Like many of you, I'm super excited for the Hunger Games movie, and I've wanted one of the replica Mockingjay pins for ages now, so I could wear it to the theater on the 23rd (I am the type of person who just might dress up fully for such an event, but busy, broke and unemployed = no time or money for costume!). I actually didn't even want to pay how much a mass produced pin would cost, so I figured that I would put my sculpting skills to the test and make a one of a kind Mockingjay pin of my own.
This is the process that I used to make it.I think it turned out pretty well! It's a little bit too big, compared to the dimensions of the mass produced pin, but I guess that doesn't matter much. Suzanne Collins never gave us specific measurements for it in the books! And this is of course unique, since it's hand made. And all it cost me was some time, effort, and a $3 package of pin backs. ; )

I used to sell the actual pins at Borders when the books came out. Hell when Mockingjay came out, they were GIVEN away with the book....I never read the books when I worked there and they even were marked down to a dollar when we went out of business....I kick myself every day now I've read this amazing series and wish so much that I had bought one.

Yeah, I wanted one of the pins too, I wish I'd gotten into the series earlier so that maybe I could have gotten one of the ones they gave with Mockingjay! But I guess this works just as well, as so far no one who's seen it has guessed that I made it. ^_^;

Definitely cool, but yeah I'm in the same boat wishing so much that I got into it when I WORKED for a bookstore....I still can't believe I never gave it a chance. In my defense though it WAS in the Young Adult Section, and I friggen HATED every book I picked up in there...so I was burned out by the time it was getting popular. I assumed it was another Twilight and wanted to burn it.
