This was taken at an "illegal protest" where nonpermitted marchers marched in the streets to try and show up on the front door step of the Republican National Convention. He was standing on a snow plow blocking a bridge. St. Paul, MnRelated content

He looks like he's thinking, God, please not on my shift. Please not on my shift. Please not on my shift. I don't know what it is bout people's assumption of the police. He's carrying tear gas, a less than lethal munition, and I can promise you that the only thing he wants to do is get home safely to his family without taking a bullet from some extremist.
Some people may call and Illegal Protest and "Illegal Protest", but in the United Stats protesting is legal so long as you get a permit to do so. It is the American's right to protest, but civil disobedience often lacks civility, and these guys aren't a police state. They're a preventative measure.
This is a good picture, and it captures a moment that reflects the time. Whether or not this is a precursor for more sinister things to come is not for me to say... but it is clear we need police, and anything that could prevent violence has my support.

Nice photo! I really like the contrast between the blurry background skyscrapers and the sharpness of the soldiers in the front. It's also nice you chose (whether it was knowingly or not) to not have the ground visible in the photo.

i'm amazed at this photo. i wasn't there so i don't know if the crowd's were being 'unruly' but it appears as the police are being over aggressive. all in all it looks like a shitty situation, sucks that friend got shot.
