Because he's a gang leader of a high school syndicate in Tokyo and he is destined to be the next savior of humenkind and defeat the evil known as Lord Pompom Verdad the Hundredth and Sixty Second pompadour of the planet Uranus.
Hence he rebels by not wearing lab goggles in lab and for some reason goes along with the coat, gloves, and mask. The hooligan.
