Description Well finally at long last I am submitting something. After seeing the wonderful Disney Peter Pan artwork done by ~Disney Bubbles and ~NovellineArt, figured I'd try my hand at it. Tho I have drawn them before, I have some other pics of them I may upload later.

This is drawn on paper from looking at various screenshots, so I can't say it's totally original. But hey it's the only way to learn how to draw them: reference pics, However I absolutely love that expression on Peter, always have. So I was thinking, "Ok I gotta do something special with that expression of his." So I put together this scene where Peter obviously hurt Wendy's feelings, like he does unconsciously sometimes, but actually felt bad about it. After I drew it I scanned it, retraced using the pen tool, colored it, and filtered some cool bgs all in Photoshop. I can already tell it's not 100% perfect but practice is practice, as it is it took me part of the day to do this. The "Sorry" thing is prolly cheesy, but oh well. :-P

Is this about the mermaids?

Not necessarily.Β  Just something Peter did to hurt Wendy which he does so easily and him feeling guilty.

Because if so, I hope you’ve learned a little lesson, Peter. If you really though the mermaids torturing Wendy like that was a joke, I can assure you that Wendy didn’t think it was funny.

How would you feel if the same thing happened to you?

Why would Wendy want to change everything in Peter's life?

Not really following what you're saying.

For one thing, she looked as if she was too tall, too big, and too old to be in that "nursery". And all she did threw out the movie was playing "mother", not even having any real fun.

As for Peter, he always looks as if he's grew much over some centuries. And what more disturbing, he acts that of an idiot, as well as the Lost boys.

I'm sorry. I don't to send a harsh sounding comment. Your art work is pretty good, but I'm just stating an opinion on what I think of the original story and its adaptions.

I hear ya.Β  There's a lot that's skewed in the Disney version.Β  It had to be 'toned down" because it's Disney and it's for kids.Β  The original tale had Peter Pan being, behind it all, a 'tragic' character, because he can't grow up, doesn't wanna grow up, which is ALWAYS a recipe for some past trauma.Β  And the trauma in the story was that he ran away from home as a small child in fear of growing up, changed his mind a couple years later only to find that his parents moved on and had another baby (hence the quote from the story, "The windows were barred").Β  He brought Wendy to Neverland to play the part of 'mother' as he missed his own very much, and he's just compensating.Β  She (wrongly) assumes he 'likes her in that way' when he doesn't, hence her leaving at the end (plus him being a narcissistic jerk).Β  But your comment before about, "Why would Wendy want to change everything in Peter's life?", I agree with.Β  In the original story she brought the other Lost Boys home with her, as they desired mothers and to grow up like most normal people would.Β  To me that always seemed selfish on her behalf, you know...to just take all his friends away from him.Β  Almost like she's pissed at him for rejecting him or something.Β  It was probably a sign of the times back then (women have to be RIGHT).Β  So subconsciously, it's like she WAS trying to change him, which women do ALL THE TIME to their men.

As for the nursery, I suppose back then kids were considered OK to stay in a nursery till 10 or so, but I never thought about that before.Β  Why WAS she still in the nursery at age 12? Guess that does seem a bit old (and creepy).Β  Sorry for being so long here, but this conversation got me going!

As I said in the above comment, it's just a general him-hurting-her-feelings kind of thing, even if by accident.Β  Could be over TigerLily tho.

Well I found a story which is match to your artwork. This is a story

At night, Peter comes to Wendy’s room unexpectedly. First, he asked if Wendy hate being his lover. But she told him that she can’t answer that feeling for now, but she will treasure it. Peter is fine with it. Another reason he came is because he want to give her a drop (sad drop) with grey color. It makes Wendy cries for the feelings of sweet but also makes her sad. That represents Peter’s feelings for his beloved, and also Wendy’s feelings for her mother. Peter felt sorry to make her cry but he promised to love her and be by her side forever. And with it, Wendy wants to believe in that. He kissed her cheek.

gorgeous. I think the idea is really sweet too... peter's always floating, and yeah, he does hurt wendy sometimes... it would be sweet of him to admit it, and try to do something about it at some point...

Oh why thank you! I didn't even think you had me on watch. And I do agree that he's not sure how to handle the situation of saying, "I'm sorry" to Wendy. So that's why I had him make that sorrowful expression. Kinda drew it from screencaps I saw but also did different things with it.

I love it!! Really cute. Those two kids' expression is perfect for their emotions. Even though you referred to captures, you carried the points very well onto another scene.

That looks Great Lisa!! And it's true, you learn by working with reference pictures. Anything that helps people learn how to draw works. I know I still use reference pictures when I'm working to draw humans, or anything I've never drawn before.

This really looks Great! Keep up the good work!!!

Hey thanks! I was thinking it wasn't that good, I still need practice with lineart. But I'm glad other ppl like it, I still look at ref pics for TMNT too.

It is really good, don't knock yourself. I don't need ref pics for the Turtles themselves, though other characters I do, unless I draw them a lot.

Well thanks all, makes me not feel as bad. I did sorta make a manipalation of the various screenshots I drew from, THEN drew them. I do sorta have Peter and Wendy's faces and hair memorized, but not completely yet.

horsetechie In reply to IveyAngelo [2005-07-21 15:32:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... I have to look at refs too for TF's I never drew before either. Most fo the sketches in scraps came from a screencap, or from looking at a little figure.

It's part of learning... esp for first time art of characters. And the more you draw, the more you learn how to draw the character by heart.
