Description
Sleepless MaidenBefore the Beginning
Heavy, determined and mysterious steps were heard from afar. The moonlight glistened and created a weary route to guide the creature to its destination. Paws scuffed along the stones imbedded in to the path. Ears twitched to each and every tiny sound which surrounded them. It's long furry tail gilded through the wind as if it was being dragged on an unknown journey.
"I must get there tonight…" cried the creature and skidded to a halt. The creature reached a grass patch which was soggy from the rain the night before. The creature continued through the grass. Its paws were clogged in thick goopy mud. Two bright orange eyes pierced up in to the night sky. There, stood in front of the anxious creature was a large wall. The creature stretched, took a huge leap, hopped right over the wall and landed safely on the over side. As the creature clambered onto its back paws, a woman's figure was shown. The moon's light shone right onto her back casing an eerie shadow around her. She was wearing a Chinese style top and shorts with chains attached to the side of them.
"Damn this curse!" she complained as she closed her eyes and licked her front right paw. She had worn out bandages wrapped around her legs. One bandage was at the top of her right leg and the other near the bottom of her left leg. She peer down;splashes of dark mud ran across them. The creature sighed and looked back up."Well, I guess it's nearly that time."
Chapter 1 - "Do you believe in witches, ghosts or even...vampires?"
"Oh no, I'm late AGAIN!" a young girl cried as she scampered franticly across the hallway and down the steep wooden stairs. The floor boards creaked under her feet. She jumped over the last few steps, adjusted her red school skirt and continued to run along the corridor. She swung around the door frame and dashed into the living area. Her chocolate brown hair flew behind her and she had two short locks of hair which swayed back and forth at the side of her face. Her deep purple eyes were completely fixed on getting to the front door. Knelt silently in front of a small wooden table was an elderly woman wearing a long flowery kimono. She lent over the table, picked up a cup and sipped the luxurious green tea.
"Hana Hikari, you should really consider buying an alarm clock dear; you don't even have time for breakfast." The woman exclaimed still clung onto her cup of green tea. "When I was your age…"
"I'm sorry Grandma, Tamiko-chan is waiting for me" the young girl interrupted as she picked up her school bag and dashed out the front door. "I'm going now goodbye"
The girl's grandma was shocked as she was interrupted by her granddaughter.
"Oh! Goodbye Hana." Hana's grandma called out.
-
Hana continued her extreme running down her street and around the corner to her best friend Tamiko.
"Good morning Hana-chan" Tamiko said softly. She was stood waving her arm to call Hana over. Tamiko Namiki had very unique hair; most of it was cut short to her neck with a long platted piece of hair hung down the right side of her waist. She has been Hana's best friend for a very long time. Two large black gates stood behind her, they led straight to the school court yard.
"Sorry… to keep you… waiting". Hana puffed and panted as she staggered up to Tamiko. Tamiko gripped tightly to her bag with both hands and giggled.
Hana caught her breath and spoke again. "Even though I don't live very far, it's a rush for me to get here."
Tamiko smiled and replied "It's okay, you made it on time"
-
"I can't wait, this is going to be fun!" cried a blue haired girl who was stood at the gates. She was talking to another girl right beside her. This girl had long wavy turquoise hair.
"I know we only have a week to wait!" The other girl replied with excitement. They smiled, ran past Hana and Tamiko and dashed through the main doors.
-
Hana closed shut the shoe locker and rested her head against it. The two short locks of hair fell beside her face.
"Why am I always late? I don't think I have ever got here early." Hana sighed.
"Don't worry Hana-chan, your not late, you made it on time." Tamiko replied as she stood next to her friend. She placed her hand on Hana's solider. "So you're okay Hana-chan…"
"Oh… I almost forgot…" Tamiko began rustling in her brown school bag. Hana looked up from her locker and turned to face Tamiko.
"Huh?" Hana tilted her head to the side. She was slightly confused.
"Here you go" Tamiko said handing over a small piece of paper to Hana. "It's for my birthday. I'm having a sleepover!" Hana received the piece of paper and noticed it had "Hana Hikari" on the front. She smiled and looked back up to Tamiko.
"Oh...Thank…" Hana was speechless. She couldn't even thank her best friend for inviting her.
Tamiko saw Hana was stuck for words and giggled. "We're going to have ice cream, noodles and sushi!" Tamiko explained excitedly. "Everyone is going to be there, Jin-chan, Shizuru-chan and even Kurosawa-chan and Fujii-chan said they could come!"
There was a loud chatter from other students in the hallway. Hana was staring at Tamiko. She was still in shock from getting invited.
"Oh wow! That sounds great! I'd love to come!" Hana finally was able to say. "Thank you for inviting me Tamiko-chan!" She made her way to her English class with Tamiko.
-
"The children had discovered the glittering hoard…"Their sensei, Sai Zuki, read from a novel she held in her right hand. Each of the students were sat at there own desk with a copy of the novel. Zuki- sensei was walking up and down the classroom as she read the novel to the class. Every so often she would pick out students to read out the next part.
At the back of the class next to the window sat Hana. She was very bored; I need something to cheer me up she thought. Next to Hana on the back row was Tamiko, who was a bit lost with the novel. She had the novel held up so she could read it better. I really don't understand any of this Tamiko thought placing the book down on her desk. In front of Hana sat a girl with long wavy turquoise hair named Shizuru Tonic and in front of Tamiko sat a girl with blue hair who was Jin Yamura. These girls were best friends and they are also good friends of Hana and Tamiko.
"…diamonds, pearls and pieces of eight." Zuki-sensei continued to read out as she made her way to the front of the class. Hana put her hand in her uniform pocket. Hana lifted her hand out of her pocket and took out a piece of paper. Oh... it's the invitation thought Hana.
"Wow, I can't wait! This is my first sleepover!" Hana shouted excitedly and closed her eyes. She was holding the invitation close to her face. The class went silent and Hana opened her eyes and looked around. Here we go again thought Jin and Shizuru. They turned around to Hana and smiled.
"Hikari-san, would you mind reading the next line please?" Zuki-sensei called from the front of the class.
Hana placed the invitation back in her pocket and shot up from her seat.
"I…it's…that…" cried Hana as she was panicking to find the right line. "Oh dear…sorry Zuki-sensei, I'm not sure where we are up to…"
Zuki-sensei looked at Hana and sighed, "oh Hikari-san, make sure you're paying attention in tomorrow lesson. Now please take your seat."
Hana slumped back into her seat and placed the book back on her desk. "Oh…why did she have to choose me? Everyone was looking at me again!"
-
The bell rang for the end of the school day and the class started to pack their school equipment away in their bags.
"Hey! Yuki-chan! Slow down a minute!" shouted a voice from in the classroom. It was a voice from a boy, named Aiku Souta. He flicked his salmon coloured hair and continued to follow a black haired girl through the classroom.
"Why? Just so you can ask me a load of pointless questions?!" yelled Yuki stomping out the doorway. She turned around to face Aiku "And stop calling me Yuki-chan"
"Oh no… I only want to ask you just one question. It's very important to me. What do you think of me Yuki-chan?" cried Aiku holding his hand out for Yuki. Yuki was loosing her temper with Aiku. It seemed like she had to put up with a lot of these situations.
"You know what I think of you, I say it everyday! Can't you see I'm not interested in you Souta-kun!" screamed Yuki in Aiku's face.
-
"Sorry Tamiko-chan, I think I need some time to sort out my work and books. You just go on without me." Hana said staring grimly at her pile of mess on her desk. Tamiko clicked the clasp shut on her bag and stood next to Hana desk. She looked at her staring at her desk and started to giggle.
"Oh okay. I'll wait for you at the gates." Tamiko replied with a smile.
"You don't have to wait for me. Really, you don't have to." Hana said franticly waving her arms.
"It's okay. I don't mind…"
With that Tamiko walked over to the front of the classroom with her school bag in her hands. She came to a halt when a voice cried out from the hallway.
"But I love you, Yuki-chan!" Aiku yelled to Yuki in front of many of their class mates. "I really do love…"
"GET OVER IT!" Yuki threw her bag right in Aiku's face and sent him crashing to the floor.
"AHHH!" screamed Aiku as he held his cheek while lay on the floor. Aiku looked up to at Yuki glaring at him with her two crimson eyes.
"Wow Kurosawa-chan is so strong!" whispered a voice from a classmate standing near the doorway.
"And really pretty too!" added another classmate who was standing in the hallway.
A long orange haired boy was stood hear Yuki staring at her. I love her hair he thought, how does she get it to be that pretty?
Yuki turned to the side. "Oh yeah, by the way, THAT'S what I think of you!"
"But…that was only ONE question." Aiku exclaimed as he sat up rubbing his cheek.
"Well, I guess this time you were lucky, you only get thrown down once!" Yuki flicked her hair and turned her back to him.
"I was lucky!?"
Yuki spun back around and placed her face right next to Aiku's. Aiku was shocked at how close she was.
"Ask me more questions and see what happens then." Yuki whispered, trying to scare him with a low tone of voice.
Aiku was still sitting on the floor in the middle of the hallway. He didn't care considering he had a pretty young girl in his face.
"No thanks. I'm out of them for now…" Aiku said as he picked himself up off the floor and walked over to his friend along the hallway.
"It's bad enough getting bothered along with Fujii, but its even worse when she's not here." Yuki sighed. She started to walk along the hallway to the main door.
Tamiko peeked out from the classroom door. She didn't want to get caught up with Yuki and Aiku.
"Did you see that? Kurosawa-chan is amazing!" the young girl from before cried.
"Yea she sure is!" replied the other girl. The two girls walked off along the corridor in the opposite direction of Yuki.
I should go and talk with her thought Tamiko and she dived along the corridor to Yuki.
"Hey. Kurosawa-chan! Could I talk with you for a bit?" Tamiko called out. She saw Yuki turn to face her and she wasn't looking at all happy. Yuki's expression changed when she noticed who it was.
"Oh Namiki-san, is there something wrong?" Yuki replied smiling. She was still annoyed at all the bugging she got but she never took it out on her friends.
"Oh no!" cried Tamiko shaking her hands and head. "I just waned to say that it's great that you're able to go to my sleepover."
"Yeah, well I guess it's going to be fun with you guys." Yuki exclaimed heading down the hallway to the main door.
"What do you mean?" asked Tamiko trying to run after her so they could still have a conversation.
"Then again any sleepover that doesn't involve Souta-kun is fine with me…" Yuki continued.
"I guess it's a good thing I didn't invite any of the boys then."
"What do you mean good? I couldn't bare it of you had any of those things that are commonly known as boys. Plus, we can say anything about them since they won't be around to shout anything back, right?" Yuki explained with a grin. She came to the main door, shoved it out and held it open for Tamiko.
"Thanks and I guess so." Tamiko replied with her usual smile. She knew Yuki would be great company at her sleepover. "Oh Kurosawa-chan, you sure have an evil mind you know."
"I know I might have evil thoughts sometimes, but it's only for special occasions." Yuki laughed as they made their way along the yard to the front gates. "Well, someone has to be a bit harsh around here, to keep things on top form." She winked, turned around. "Well, I must be off now, see you tomorrow."
"And that proves you're perfect for that role." Tamiko replied waving her hand.
Yuki laughed again and waved back at Tamiko. Tamiko watched as Yuki walked further and further away from her.
-
Tamiko stood staring at where Yuki had been walking. Something was on her mind but she didn't show it to anyone around her. A few classmates left the school and smiled to Tamiko as they went by. Tamiko didn't mind she was standing alone but did wonder what was taking Hana so long to pack up her things. She sighed.
As Tamiko was getting used to the silence around her, she heard footsteps racing behind her. She slowly turned around to find two girls, Jin and Shizuru calling out to her.
"Hey Tamiko-chan, we are so excited for your sleepover! Thank you so much for inviting us!" Shizuru shouted and her wavy hair swayed in the light breeze as she ran.
"Yep, I have everything sorted! I'll be taking my DVD collection, loads of chocolate and my adorable teddy! Jin explained. Her dark blue hair was half tied up in a bright pink ribbon.
Tamiko was speechless. "…That's great… I'm happy you're both excited for it!"
Jin and Shizuru both smiled and lilted their head at the same time.
"Is there anything else we need to bring?" Shizuru asked Tamiko.
"Erm… I don't think so. Just remember to bring your self." Tamiko joked. Jin looked in deep thought and didn't realize what Tamiko just said.
"HA HA" Shizuru laughed back at Tamiko. "We will…"
"I know!" Jin shouted all of a sudden. "I could take a MELON!"
Tamiko and Shizuru stood in total shock.
"Oh yeah… and what sort of thing is a melon to take to a sleepover nee-chan?" Shizuru asked.
Tamiko was completely confused as to why Jin said such a random thing.
TO BE CONT.
