Description
Question: How Do You Kill A Clam?Answer: You accuse it of being a maverick and then watch as it does it itself.
Shield Sheldon is my favourite Megaman boss.
You can shit on X6 all you want but this turn of events was tragic and bittersweet. How cruel was this sweet robot treated to be driven to such an act of sorrow? People are assholes to reploids. :/

Very cute drawing! I feel very bad for him He has one of the saddest past of the entire X-Saga. I hope you like the Gaming-Fairy's fanfic.
The babysitters: Understanding (MMX Fanfiction)Shield Sheldon approached Elizabelle’s room. He struggled slightly to enter her doorway, due to his Large Shells. He eventually got through.
“Well, that was rough.” Shield Sheldon whispered. He Looked at the time on the clock, 12:30 am. Shield Sheldon walked over to Elizabelle’s sleeping form. He kneeled down and smiled. Elizabelle clung to her pink teddy bear. The fox cub began to whine in her sleep. Shield Sheldon’s smile disappeared. The clam repliod saw himself in the child. For he too, has gone through trauma. Elizabelle began to silently cry. Shield Sheldon began to rub the fox cub’s head. Elizabelle’s eyes slowly opened. She looked up at Shield Sheldon, her innocent eyes were filled with tears and terror.
“W-who are you?” Elizabelle fearfully asked. Shield Sheldon sadly smiled at the fox cub.
“I’m Shield Sheldon, one of Gate’s Reploids.” Shield Sheldon replied. Elizabelle shakily sat up in her b

See, it was cases like Sheldon and Wolfang for example that really got to me with the X games.
Because Reploid mental and emotional issues were treated like crap and were often met with the OK for execution, I tended to really feel for the Mavericks in the game and often viewed the Xverse human race are a collective of douchebags that clearly didn't deserve the Reploids's admiration or respect.

BINGO BABY. Classic is cute and lighthearted with its comical good vs evil and even though it does play on some moral issues it doesn't go as deep as I find the X series does especially when it comes to the politics on how sentient robots should be treated.
Call it over-analytical but that's why I headcanon the reason a lot of reploids are built with animal-like features. It is easier for the humans to control and oppress something that doesn't look human and they don't feel as bad giving it less rights.

Another thing I like to do as a Megaman X fan (if you see my gallery you could probably tell I'm an X character whore) is give legit existing boss characters more character depth and personality, since all we ever see of them in the canon is just "blah blah blah gone maverick black blah blah terminate blah blah half assed-synopsis blah blah" and like two sentences for a backstory.
Hell, the animal-based Hunters could've had a storyline before X1 started; we know that Boomer, Stag, Mandrill and Beetle (and Vile) were members of the 17th Unit with X - maybe they were all buds or something.
I saw a really beautiful doujin on Pixiv that plays out a Hunt mission with the 0th and 17th Squads (it was a post-X7 flashback cuz Axl shows up) featuring the above (minus Vile), X, Zero, Hornet, Centipede, Gator and Crab (the latter two were transport escorts), and was supposedly how they envisioned the introduction of Cyber Peacock (spoilers);
Each character showed a remarkable semblance of personality. As far as I could translate, Stag was definitely the hotheaded jock of the group (in some cases, rather literally; I think Stag's the doujin writer's favorite character from X), Beetle was the cutesy clingy little brother to Boomer, Mandrill was the battle-scarred takes-no-shit guy, Centipede was the stereotypical ninja character, Gator was a cranky sea captain and so forth.

Unfortunately, many Reploids have been labeled Mavericks for no reason in the X series... There have been many tragic instances of 'Mavericks' who were doing nothing wrong, yet they got exterminated. Like the whole Repliforce, for example. They were just too proud to stay under the watch of the Maverick Hunters, so they got labeled as Mavericks.

It's very true. And even in X8 the Mavericks, although infected with the Sigma virus, were doing their violent things in order to seize blueprints and materials to build a rocket that would allow them to escape Earth entirely. And the Maverick Hunters stormed in and destroyed them all. It's some heavy business.

Yeah, two times the Maverick Hunters destroyed groups who just wanted to live alone. It's like they are the secret dictators of the future. X and Zero even labeled each other Mavericks and almost achieved mutual destruction. The Maverick Hunters probably need better judgement

Sheldon had one of the sadder backstories in the game. It seems the world, by that time, had gotten easily paranoid and suspicious of Reploids, even when they were simply trying to do their jobs like Sheldon.

That is very true. The gap between Megaman and Megaman X is pretty small in terms of technological advancement. You go a few hundred years with robots that obey the 3 laws of robotics and then suddenly they begin mass producing infinitely more advanced ones who don't. It's no wonder people cried maverick at any abnormality. Humankind worked diligently to oppress reploids in an attempt to prevent a robot uprising but in the end it was that oppression that caused it.

Yup, it's sad especially given there were a lot of cases where humans and Reploids were getting along originally.

It's unfortunately because of the same black and white ways that have ruled the human world for so long. It got ingrained into Reploid society and the end result is them suffering unfair discrimination the same way we did, and still do, to ourselves.

It's very true. Reploids just became the new addition to the cycle of oppression.
