Now let's get psychologically geeky: I'd say it's paradigms ingrained into society. People usually take certain things as obvious until they are confronted with the exception.Β
I mean, like that thing you complained months ago, that people think "she's tomboyish, she works out into a very muscular body, therefore she MUST be a dyke (lesbian)." Then they get surprised to see you acting out as what you are, just a young lady like so many others, only a young lady that's striving to be your own kind of sexy rather than society's kind of sexy. Get what I mean?
Besides, that Lt. Vega is a freaking CROSSPLAY. Most cosplaying girls have crossplayed at least once in their lives. That doesn't make you any different, you just look a bit more uncommon.
