A quick Tutorial on how to digitally paint agouti or sable on dogs. The dog used in the examples is Fervious and their dog, Shook .

Do not take, trace, claim, copy, etc. the images used here. They are only for tutorial reference on how to paint agouti/sable.
Feel free to ask questions.

1. Take the dog's ref and pick the colors. Use the default round brush with 85% jitter opacity. Don't have the "Pressure for Size" on. Get the general portions of the markings and colors. You can shape it later.

2. Use the Smudge tool to create a fur texture. Use a spotted brush to smudge with. Smudge along with the fur direction, where it would fall. Do it to the whole body where long hair is. If its a short haired dog like a Dalmatian or Pitbull, use smaller, lighter strokes cause their fur is shorter.

3. Using the default round brush again, go over the whole body of the dog adding small strokes creating the agouti fur texture. Turn on the "Pressure for Size" and use the color picker to select the near by colors of the area. make sure to go in the direction of the fur and where it lies. Again, with shorter-haired dogs, use smaller, lighter strokes to create that short-haired texture.

4. Once you've gone over the whole body, go to the Smudge too again and use the same spotted brush. Go over the whole dog again with the Smudge tool, going along the fur direction. Don't smudge too hard, do it lightly as not to loose the fur detail you just did.

5. Look over the whole piece and see if there is anything you want to add or take off. Once you feel its right, then you're done!
