Description I guess this qualifies as "Technical." Right? Erm... anyway, here are four HUGE images of a brass ring dial.

For those of you who want to know what exactly this is, check out this page: [link]

Picked that up at an antique store. It was stuck inside a wooden base of all things. How tacky!

That's pretty neat. The next time someone asks you what time it is you can be all like "Hold on, let me check my ring dial."

I have one of these sundials - a rather sophisticated type that corrects for the changing solar positions with seasons and latitude. It folds up nice and flat. Nice photos of it.

That's so cool! I totally want one of those. Because I can never tell what time it is even by looking at the position of the sun in the sky.
And I find it kind of amusing that they used one of those as a model for the time turner in Harry Potter...

How is it you know exactly what the hell I'm looking for regardless of project?

It's getting rather spooky, Soph.

Don't misunderstand me.. Tis APPRECIATED spooky...But spooky nevertheless.

OH! while I'm here. I've got some goodies I'll be uploading later to gallery and ftp (providing my system not crap out on me yet again...it's getting old at this point) How big is your hard drive? The files are moderately massive and if it would be easier to burn to disk I'll need to pilfer hubby's burner for a day or two.

My harddrive is pretty big and I don't really have a whole lot of stuff on it, honestly. Whatcha uploading?

I am -attempting- to upload a few paintings I'd done in the past. My offspring and I had a conversation about my issue with the submission policy and he brought up a very valid point that forced me to reconsider posting at least some of my work here again.

In the middle of a perfectly good rant, he pointed out that most of the stock models here do what they do simply for the enjoyment of being a muse and seeing themselves become part of the art itself and that didn't I think it unfair to tell them I'd used their images without ever having -shown- them?

Meh. Did I MENTION it was in the middle of a perfectly good rant?

Anyway.

Yes. Am going to upload older works soonish. I've got to hunt a good many of them down first yet my personal policy has always been to offer the models a full resolution file for their archives/personal portfolios/printing should they desire one. A full res file of MINE usually lands somewhere in the middle of 'Holy SHIT thats effing HUGE!"

And .. you know.. ACTUALLY effing huge. (recently deleted an old project of mine after moving on to my 2 terabyte raid storage. It was 50 gig all on it's own. No, that's not a typo ) Ergo, the necessity of you to be in possession of a large hard drive.

I am currently encountering a sundry of computer issues at the moment, not the least of which include the inability to access my friggin FTP, which is pissing me the ever-lovin' HELL off.. but when I DO manage to succeed ( and I WILL, damnit! *shakes tiny fist in the air*) you will be given a link and a password to your very own folder containing all the paintings I've created of you thus far. That way, even should I choose not to upload them after all, I will have satisfied my isshy integrity by having fulfilled my end of the artistic deal, so to speak.

Or we COULD go the short route...

'I've got paintings of you for you to download.'

But where's the fun in THAT?

I dunno. A thingie that sailors and navigators use... somehow. Just wiki "Universal Ring Dial" and see what it says. I just think it looks cool.

It's an astrolabe, isn't it? I have a very general idea of how to use it.
